Dental Assistant I - School of Dentistry Position Summary: Perform routine tasks assisting the professional dental staff and students in the examination and prophylactic, therapeutic and surgical treatment of patients. Works under direct supervision.

UTHealth Houston's School of Dentistry is hiring for a Dental Assistant I to join their team of professionals. The DA I will be responsible for assisting residents/students with dental treatment, taking X-rays and CBCTs, setting up surgeries, infection control, cleaning and fully stocking operatories, and more. RDA from the State Board of Dental Examiners is required. CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist in the teaching of dental students, dental assisting students, and dental hygiene students in the principles of four-handed dentistry and dental assistant utilization (DAU).

Provide chair side assistance to students and faculty.

Maintain sterile conditions and prepare equipment, instruments, and supplies within the working area.

Maintain infection control standards.

Maintain records of patients seen, procedures performed, materials used, and appointments.

Respond to emergency situations as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills

Basic office or computer skills.

Dental Assistant by Texas State Board of Dental Examiners (TSBDE) required

Minimum Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. Completion of a recognized dental assistant educational program preferred.

Minimum Experience None

Physical Requirements Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Residency Requirement Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
