Overview
As an Examiner, you will be conducting Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran by providing an exceptional examination experience. These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive as a result of service-connected health issues. Our clinical insights help facilitate access to treatment subspecialists when necessary, creating continuity of care for those who need it most. Examiners will be guided through a web-based examination form in a proprietary online system to capture patient information throughout the examination process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, be able to work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and adapt to changing situations. Basic computer skills are required. This position does not involve prescribing or treatment planning. Responsibilities
Conduct Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing disability impact on daily life and function. 10% travel is required to include other LSGS Clinics. Review and Analyze Medical Records: assess medical records and diagnostic results to understand the veteran’s medical history and health condition. Render Objective Medical Opinions: provide unbiased, evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on work and daily activities. Case Management and Collaboration: understand and work in case management systems, organize workload, submit examination findings, and communicate with the QA team; collaborate with other healthcare professionals as needed. Document Findings: accurately record examination findings and recommendations in reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations. Interdepartmental Collaboration: partner with all Loyal Source departments to gain support and resources to meet deadlines and improve performance. Time Management and Scheduling: manage submission and confirmation of availability for all C&P exams and maintain scheduling. Compliance and Quality: adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and standards for disability examinations, ensuring accuracy and fairness; comply with VA training requirements and QA processes; maintain HIPAA compliance and data confidentiality. Confidentiality and Privacy: safeguard patient information per privacy and security protocols. Qualifications
Education and Licensing: Graduated from an accredited Physician Assistant program with a valid and unrestricted Physician Assistant license in the United States; not barred from practice. Experience: at least 1 year of experience as a Physician Assistant; prior medical disability exam experience or related field is preferred. Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; military experience or familiarity with military/veteran communities preferred. Training: specialized training in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous. Skills: clinical assessment proficiency, ability to interpret diagnostics, and formulate evidence-based opinions; strong communication, ethics, and integrity; detail-oriented with data quality focus; ability to work independently and in teams; strong organizational and time management skills; customer-focused with a sense of urgency. Work Authorization: eligible to work in the United States and compliant with federal contracting guidelines. Additional Details
Reasoning Ability: apply common sense and follow detailed instructions to solve problems with a few variables. Technological Ability: proficient with MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, and web-based platforms/electronic medical records; familiarity with Teams and LMS is preferred. Physical Requirements: prolonged standing and desk work; ability to lift up to 15 pounds; full range of motion to conduct physical examinations.
