Mental Health Counselor LII, Correctional Health Services, Part‑time, OTxHU‑Bellevue NYC Health + Hospitals

Salary Base pay range: $35,638.00/yr – $35,638.00/yr

About the Program Outposted Therapeutic Housing Units Program (OTxHU) is a pioneering approach to safely increase access to high‑quality clinical care for incarcerated individuals with complex health conditions. The OTxHU at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in Manhattan will begin operation as early as the end of 2024.

Key Responsibilities

Provide quality mental health care to individuals incarcerated in the NYC jail system in assigned area of work.

Conduct mental‑health evaluations, crisis intervention, assessments, and follow‑up care.

Collaborate on determining disposition of patients for appropriate level of mental health care.

Coordinate with Reentry Social Workers for appropriate discharge planning services.

Complete required statistical reports.

Collaborate with the Department of Correction to ensure access to patients, proper housing, and treatment disposition.

Coordinate patient care with other institutional services and programs.

Facilitate or co‑facilitate mental health group treatment.

Complete all required documentation.

Participate in clinical supervision with Clinical Supervisor at least once a week.

Participate in mental health and medical rounds as assigned.

Participate in case conferences and treatment planning for patients receiving and being considered for mental health treatment.

May conduct psychological testing as assigned, under supervision.

May supervise social work interns or student volunteers as assigned.

Perform other duties as assigned by Senior/Clinical Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid license and current registration to practice as a Mental Health Counselor issued by NYSED.

Two (2) years of full‑time, paid, professional experience providing direct client care in a behavioral health setting.

Assignment Level II.

Department Preferences

Excellent diagnostic and treatment skills.

Demonstrate knowledge of psychopathology in assessing patients in need of mental health treatment, including mental status examination and diagnosis.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and with NYC DOC staff.

Flexible disposition.

LCSW or LMHC.
