Responsibilities

Assist and support scientific investigations in the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology.

Independently conduct assigned experiments and perform a variety of molecular, cellular, and biological research techniques, including PCR reactions, gel electrophoresis, assays, cell cultures, and Northern and Western blot analyses.

Sort and process tissues, perform routine procedures on lab animals, and test and evaluate current procedures.

Record, consolidate, and assist with analysis of research results; evaluate the validity of data obtained from experimental procedures.

Summarize data for inclusion in grant proposals and manuscripts; prepare research progress reports.

Assist the principal investigator with the preparation of publications, manuscripts, articles, posters, and abstracts.

Conduct library research on requested topics and review current literature.

Oversee and maintain accurate records of laboratory activities; assist with training of junior research staff, undergraduate and graduate students in research methods and equipment operation.

Set up and operate laboratory equipment; monitor research supplies, including specimens and inventory; initiate procurement requests as needed.

Minimum Education Bachelor’s level degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with a high school diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience with an associate’s degree, or 0 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree. Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.

Additional Information Location: Graves Hall (0277) – The Ohio State University, College of Medicine – School of Biomedicine, Science Physiology and Cell Biology. Position type: Regular. Scheduled hours: 40 h per week.
