Job Title: Lead Estimator Stevens Engineers & Constructors has an excellent opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated Lead Estimator to join our Pittsburgh Operations Team. The Lead Estimator will manage and coordinate estimating activities to ensure accurate, competitive, and profitable proposals within corporate parameters.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Supervise and coordinate the estimating team's work, including quantity take‑offs for self‑perform work, subcontracted work, and solicitation of material and rental quotes.

Assemble complete estimates from individual estimators into a single bid document and assign a bid number for bidding purposes.

Develop scopes for bid packages by reviewing construction documents (specifications, plans, addendums, RFIs) to understand design intent and constructability.

Attend pre‑bid meetings to determine scope of work and estimate contents.

Prepare estimates by calculating complete take‑offs and soliciting pricing from qualified vendors and subcontractors.

Compile supporting information for proposals, such as project organization charts, personnel resumes, unit prices, corporate safety information, price breakouts, quantities, schedules, and insurance information.

Maintain files of working documents as backup for estimates, including current pricing information from suppliers, sales brochures, and price lists.

Support other estimating personnel with computer work and discipline estimates as needed.

Research, negotiate, and prepare purchase orders and subcontract agreements for awarded projects, ensuring required insurance coverage.

Prepare internal job setup documentation, including award of contract forms, code of accounts, quantity sheets, and copy estimate files.

Participate in pre‑job meetings with project management personnel.

Act as a liaison to ensure bidding subcontractors and suppliers fully understand project scope, specifications, schedules, and conditions.

Skills and Qualifications

Advanced project estimating skills, including engineering calculations and terminology, to communicate effectively with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and vendors.

Experience preparing detailed conceptual cost estimates.

Experience writing and negotiating subcontract agreements.

Knowledge of unit costs and factors affecting construction costs.

Accurate and precise attention to detail.

Ability to understand and communicate basic construction concepts.

Advanced organizational and time‑management skills.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Ability to lead and foster a positive working environment, manage a team of employees, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to build solid working relationships with project team members, vendors, and customers.

Hand‑on and strategic mindset, with strong work ethic and results orientation.

Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and construction management software packages (e.g., InEight, P6, Viewpoint).
