Job Overview Granite Concrete is seeking a detail‑oriented and technically skilled Quality Control (QC) Manager to oversee quality assurance programs across our asphalt paving, ready‑mix concrete, and aggregate operations in Montana and Idaho. This individual will develop, implement, and maintain QC procedures to ensure all materials and construction work meet regulatory requirements, technical specifications, and industry standards.

The QC Manager will collaborate with project managers, plant operators, technicians, and client representatives to identify and resolve quality issues before they impact production or schedules. This role does not include direct supervisory authority but requires leadership, accountability, and cross‑department coordination to consistently uphold Granite Concrete's high standards of safety, quality, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage QC programs for asphalt, concrete, and aggregate across multiple facilities and job sites.

Develop and implement project‑specific Quality Control Plans (QCPs) in compliance with FP‑14, WFLHD, MDT, MPWSS, and local standards.

Oversee lab and field testing, including soil compaction, aggregate gradation, concrete slump, air content, compressive strength, asphalt density, and core sampling.

Maintain accurate test logs, certifications, and submittals for audit‑ready documentation.

Verify material compliance, mix design approvals, and conformance with specifications.

Conduct pre‑pour and pre‑pave inspections (formwork, rebar, subgrade, base prep).

Coordinate with third‑party labs and regulatory agencies as required.

Provide technical guidance to technicians, field crews, and plant staff on proper sampling and testing procedures.

Investigate quality issues, lead root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

Participate in preconstruction meetings, jobsite inspections, and quality audits with clients and agencies.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of QC experience in heavy civil construction (asphalt, concrete, aggregates).

Strong knowledge of FP‑14, WFLHD, MDT, MPWSS, ASTM, AASHTO, and NPCA standards.

Proficiency in reading and interpreting mix designs, plans, and technical specifications.

Experience maintaining accurate QC documentation and reporting.

Strong communication, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.

Valid driver's license; willingness to travel throughout Northwest Montana and North Idaho.

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred).

Certifications: ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician – Grade I, WAQTC/TTQP (aggregate, asphalt density, etc.), MSHA Part 46/48 training (preferred).

OSHA 30‑hour training strongly recommended (preferred).

Familiarity with NPCA plant certification requirements (preferred).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) (preferred).
