General Purpose The Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership team responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store and for general operations and supervision when acting as Manager on Duty.
Key responsibilities include opening and closing the store, supervising associates, maintaining a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment, ensuring proper merchandise presentation, and keeping work areas clean.
Area Supervisors also execute and supervise company operational processes as needed.
Essential Functions Maintaining Safe & Secure Environments
Practice safe behaviors and maintain safety as the highest priority.
Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment.
Secure building entrance/exit, electronic article surveillance, cash office, armored carrier pickups and register area.
Remove clutter and ensure clear egress to emergency exits.
Guard customer safety, report accidents, assist with emergency procedures.
Test all fire alarm systems as scheduled and respond to after‑hours alarms when requested.
Customer Service
Treat all customers, associates and other leaders with respect.
Demonstrate courtesy, friendliness, and professionalism.
Recognize associates using company recognition programs.
Personal and Store Brand
Represent and support the company brand consistently.
Maintain a professional appearance; enforce the company dress code.
Keep all store areas clean, well‑maintained, and merchandised.
Perform daily trash removal.
General Merchandising
Ensure recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to company standards.
Manage receiving of merchandise truck and non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
Process all merchandise quickly and accurately.
Maintain stockroom cleanliness and organization.
Help deliver and place merchandise on the sales floor.
Secure and process back‑stock.
Merchandise department including back‑stock.
Reduce loss due to damage.
Ensure compliance with monthly presentation guidelines.
Handle floor moves, promotional signing, and re‑wraps as needed.
Loss Prevention
Comply with our Loss Prevention Awareness Program.
Maintain a strong customer service presence on the sales floor.
Safeguard confidential information, cash and credit cards, and merchandise.
Maintain and operate the public view monitor.
Conduct “Code 50” package inspections.
Execute best practices to maximize productivity.
Front‑End Supervision and Operations
Ensure associates follow company standards at the front end.
Maintain pace, energy and presence at the front end.
Train and coach associates on cash registers, shortage control and other front‑end procedures.
Control associate break schedules for backups, lunches, and breaks.
Ensure equipment is working properly and supplies are stocked.
Ensure go‑backs are expedited, scanned, security‑tagged and ticketed.
Teach “Scan‑and‑Bag” best practice.
Ensure salability of merchandise on the front end.
Fitting Rooms
Maintain and clean fitting rooms.
Audit and account for all fitting‑room garment tags.
Ensure compliance with go‑back procedures.
Administrative Duties as Assigned by Store Manager
Perform cash pulls and bank deposits according to company policy.
Manage front‑end controls, refund approval, associate purchase approval, secure tills, PPIs, void approvals, media and break schedules.
Administer payroll: daily punch edits, associate scheduling compliance, Sunday payroll transmission and payroll reporting.
Other duties as assigned by the store manager.

Excellent verbal communication skills.
Fluency in English.
Prior customer service and supervisory experience preferred.
Familiarity with point‑of‑sale equipment and applications.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations used in retail.
Availability to work evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements / ADA
Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers and PC as required.
Stand, walk and move around the store for up to 100 % of work time.
Bend at waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly.
Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 lbs.
Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other supplies.
