Job Description Summary The swine group at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our team. This animal care specialist position provides a unique opportunity for someone interested in gaining valuable experience in swine production. Position located in Kennett Square, PA. No public transportation available.
Job Description The specialist will be trained to carry out daily farm activities related to the daily care of pigs in the various stages of production, including farrowing, nursery, grow/finish and adult breeding herd as well as participate in farm biosecurity, animal assessments and appropriate treatments. Depending upon interest, the animal care specialist may also have the possibility to contribute to our teaching and research initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
Daily farm activities related to the daily care of pigs in the various stages of production.
Farm biosecurity, animal assessments and appropriate treatments.
May also have the possibility to contribute to our teaching and research initiatives.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
High school graduate/GE degree and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Graduate of a four‑year animal science bachelor’s program or a graduate of an AVMA accredited veterinary technician or technology program (eligible for license in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a CVT).
