As our Expansion Planning Engineer Co-op, you’ll take on impactful projects that sharpen your technical skills and expand your career opportunities. You’ll help analyze and model scenarios that guide MISO’s long-term planning, from integrating large loads to developing weather-dependent planning strategies. What You’ll Be Doing

Gain hands-on experience with power system modeling tools such as PSS®E, EMS, and Python Work on real-world projects like large load integration and weather-driven planning scenarios Collaborate across functions to connect your work to MISO’s broader system reliability mission A Great Day in This Role Means

Working alongside your manager, mentor, and a cross-departmental buddy to analyze future system needs, develop planning scenarios, and contribute directly to studies that influence grid expansion decisions. Supported MISO’s Expansion Planning team by analyzing scenarios and large load impacts that informed future transmission planning Developed hands-on expertise with planning and modeling tools (Python, PSS®E, EMS) Presented findings and recommendations to department leaders and executives Qualifications at a Glance

Term: Jan 14 – May 1, 2026 | Full-time | Paid Location: Eagan, MN | Housing available for qualified students Academic Level: Undergraduate (Juniors or Seniors) or Graduate Degree: Electrical Engineering Required Technical Skills

Completion of core engineering coursework such as circuits and power systems Exposure to or interest in Python, PSS®E, EMS, or other modeling systems Preferred Skills

Familiarity with system planning or modeling coursework/projects Interest in grid reliability and long-term system planning Values Fit

Some college or better in Electrical Engineering. Experience

Required

Exposure to or interest in Python, PSS®E, EMS, or other modeling systems Preferred

Familiarity with system planning or modeling coursework/projects Interest in grid reliability and long-term system planning Licenses & Certifications
