Pittsburgh Paints Company is currently seeking an

Architect and Design Representative

for the Chicago market. In this role you will be a key specification driver, establishing, maintaining and growing our architectural specification share through our commercial paint products and color tools.

This position takes a system approach to non-traditional selling, requiring strong positive relationship building skills and on‑site recommendations, guidance and project meetings with owners, architects, interior designers, product specifiers, general contractors and key corporate accounts. You will work with these business partners to generate specifications and color schedules to paint and maintain new and existing commercial buildings and monumental projects.

The role is based remotely with up to 50% travel.

Key Responsibilities

Primarily focus on new construction, with a mix of existing building renovations.

Project tracking and planning – communicate plans, allocate tasks and set milestones.

Call on firms that influence specifications for commercial buildings – office space, retail, hotels, resorts, etc.

Build and develop relationships with firms/customers to determine the PPC relationship status and use presentations to influence the project specification as an approved manufacturer.

Address both product system (technical side) and color schedules (design side) with a higher‑level understanding of complexity and proficiency in both.

Conduct technical paint system conversations with specification writers and discuss color schemes with interior designers.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of outside sales experience.

Experience influencing architectural specifications.

Customer‑centric communication skills in person, virtual and verbal.

Strong presentation skills and proficiency in front of various audiences.

Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop, web‑based applications (Construct Connect, BSD, AVITRU, BIM/REVIT) and CRM experience.

Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Preference for specialists in AIA MasterFormat, CSI/CDC Three‑Part Format, IIDA or ASID.

Existing architect and interior design contacts and industry association membership are additional preference.

Understand the relationship among Owner, Architect, Designer, General Contractor and Painter.

Consistent travel within the territory, at least 2 overnight stays per week, and a valid driver’s license.

Legal authorization to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility required at hire; visa sponsorship not available.
