Position Title: Clinical Instructor - Nursing (part-time). Posting Number 2023003P. Working Title: Clinical Instructor - Nursing (part-time). Classification Code: 8006Q. FLSA Exempt - Teaching. University: Eastern Washington University. Location: Spokane, WA.
Job Summary Clinical Instructors report to the School of Nursing (SON) Director. As special faculty, clinical instructors are responsible for teaching in clinical, laboratory, and simulated learning environments. Clinical instructors collaborate with semester-level faculty to ensure that direct care assignments and focused clinical learning activities enable achievement of the integrated practicum learning outcomes.
Responsibilities and Duties
Provide clinical instruction in approved health care settings and the nursing simulation laboratory.
Maintain positive relationships with partners in the assigned clinical setting.
Assist with instruction in the nursing skills lab.
Serve as a professional registered nurse role model.
Guide student reflection for practice improvement in post‑clinical conferences.
Maintain clinical expertise in assigned clinical area (e.g., pediatrics, obstetrics, medical).
Evaluate student performance and achievement of clinical learning outcomes.
Communicate evaluation with students on a weekly basis.
Complete written evaluations at midterm and final.
Assign pass/fail grades based on objective assessment.
Identify students at risk of not passing; collaborate with course clinical lead and Director of Clinical.
Contribute to clinical site evaluations at the completion of a clinical rotation.
Capstone instructors evaluate clinical preceptors after each capstone course.
Participate in ongoing teaching and learning development activities offered by the SON.
Participate in continuing education to maintain clinical competence in area of expertise.
Maintain knowledge of the BSN curriculum, student policies, and clinical requirements.
Education and Qualifications Required qualifications:
Master’s degree in nursing or Bachelor’s degree in nursing and a graduate degree in a health or education-related field.
Unencumbered Washington Registered Nurse license, or eligibility for licensure.
Current healthcare provider CPR certification.
At least three years recent clinical experience in assigned clinical area.
Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the needs of students, faculty, staff, and the public.
Preferred qualifications:
Five years recent clinical experience in assigned clinical area.
Master’s level coursework in nursing education.
Prior experience teaching in a clinical, laboratory, or simulated learning environment.
Experience working with Canvas or another learning management system.
Benefits Faculty eligibility rules are complex and depend on the nature of your appointment. Faculty with a semester‑to‑semester appointment who are in an EWU paid appointment of at least 50 percent or more are eligible for PEBB insurance on the first day of the month following the start of their second consecutive academic term.
