Dental Hygiene Clinical Instructor
— In-person position at our downtown Spokane campus. Eastern Washington University is a regional, comprehensive public university with an emphasis on hands-on learning. EWU offers programs across multiple locations in Washington State, including Cheney, Spokane, Catalyst building, SIERR, and Riverpoint. Job Summary
Primary responsibilities of the dental hygiene clinical instructor are:
Interact with the students and patients for the benefit of the patient’s oral health care.
Provide written and oral feedback to students, evaluating their clinical performance in an objective and positive manner.
Assist students in supervising clinic check‑in and check‑out procedures in a timely manner.
Model professionalism in all manners of conduct and presentation.
Follow the same dress code requirements for the instructor as for students (dress code, piercings, hair, shoes, PPE, etc.).
Be familiar with clinic course syllabi, particularly clinic requirements by reviewing enrollment and documents in CANVAS courses.
Use CANVAS learning management system for student assessment and grading.
Utilize iPad and/or laptop computers for clinical and laboratory assessment and grading.
Be knowledgeable of the Clinic Policies and Procedures Manual and provide suggestions for future editions.
Be prompt in attending assigned clinical sessions.
Plan and implement assigned stations for clinic workshops.
Attend regularly scheduled faculty in-service meetings.
Regularly receive training in educational methodologies.
This is an in-person position at our downtown Spokane campus.
Required Qualifications Meet annual continuing education requirements for re-licensure (e.g., 15 hours/year). Provide instruction utilizing current scientific methods and principles.
Maintain current Certification in Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (at least every two years), providing the operations manager with a copy of the certification.
Maintain current Washington State Dental Hygiene license, providing the operations manager with a copy of the license.
Document compliance with hepatitis B vaccination or sign a declination form.
Document yearly tuberculosis skin testing or sign a declination form.
Minimum BA in Dental Hygiene.
Preferred Qualifications Maintain current membership in one’s professional association (e.g., American Dental Hygienists’ Association, American Dental Association).

Job Duties Conditions of Employment
Appointment as a Part-time Dental Hygiene Clinical Instructor does not confer any right to subsequent appointment. This position will involve receipt of, or accountability for, university funds or other items of value; as well as unsupervised access with vulnerable individuals. The offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion and passing of a background check prior to beginning employment. All new employees must comply with EWU immunization Policy 602-02 and provide proof of immunity or vaccination to MMR before beginning work at EWU. Waivers for immunization requirements are available for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position at this time.
Salary Information
$35/hour with bachelor’s in Dental Hygiene and registered hygienist in WA $40/hour with bachelor’s in Dental Hygiene and a master’s in related field and registered hygienist in WA May become eligible for benefits after 6 months.
