Location The Patient Transporter (U) is responsible for safely, timely, and accurately transporting patients while providing the utmost positive experience. The position reports to the Office of Patient Experience and is held to the highest standards of friendliness, empathy, knowledge, and continuous consumer orientation.
Core Job Functions
Transport patients and visitors between departments, units, and ancillary areas, remaining attentive until arrival.
Transfer bodies to the morgue following protocol.
Meet productivity measures and benchmarks set by the hospital.
Assist at the main lobby greeting patients and helping with transport assignments.
Identify correct patient for transportation by verifying name, date of birth, and armband, maintaining confidentiality.
Practice good body mechanics during transfer and lifting.
Obtain and transport paperwork/chart with the patient.
Monitor oxygen and intravenous apparatus, reporting changes or problems to nursing staff and reporting defective equipment.
Keep hallways clear, storing equipment appropriately and exercising caution when moving stretchers, wheelchairs, and equipment.
Participate in emergency drills, in‑service trainings, evacuation procedures, and disaster plans.
Adhere to precautionary methods and use personal protective equipment as defined on precaution cards.
Maintain hand hygiene, prepare, disinfect, and cover equipment appropriately.
Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff, respecting privacy and cultural preferences.
Respond promptly to requests, problems, and questions from physicians, staff, patients, and visitors, notifying appropriate personnel upon arrival/departure.
Adhere to University and unit‑level policies and procedures, safeguarding University assets.
Core Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
BLS Certification.
Minimum of six months’ experience as a courier in a hospital setting (preferred).
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes
Communicate effectively in oral and written form.
Handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure.
Accurately prepare and maintain records, files, reports, and correspondence.
Process and handle confidential information with discretion.
Commit to the University’s core values.
