Exempt Responsibilities

DIRECT CLIENT SERVICES:

Administers medications, immunizations, STD testing and treatments; assesses and plans delivery of direct public health services; conducts physical assessments; prepares and maintains patient records and program reports; counsels patients; uses independent clinical judgement for referrals; manages pharmaceuticals, vaccine inventory and storage. DISEASE PREVENTION/CONTROL:

Identifies community resources and makes referrals; supports case management; conducts home visits; participates in surveillance of infectious diseases and health conditions; ensures compliance with immunization and disease control programs. ADMINISTRATION:

Maintains data recording systems; prepares service reports and program outcomes; analyzes operations; assists with grant writing, reporting and evaluations; develops policy/procedure manuals; prepares literature reviews and administrative studies. COMMUNITY HEALTH EDUCATION:

Oversees planning and implementation of core programs; collaborates with officials, schools, and health providers; develops local health coalitions; provides education on public health priorities; participates in initiatives to improve public health infrastructure; fosters professional nursing practices and coordinates with stakeholders. OTHER DUTIES ASSIGNED:

Participates in disaster response/continuity of operations; drives state vehicles as required; complies with immunization policies. Initial Criteria

Registered Nurse by the State of Texas or a state recognizing reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact. 2 years' work experience in Nursing, Public Health, Case management or infectious disease; 2 years in a medical clinical setting. Ability to travel day and overnight travel totaling about 40% of the time. Licensure, Certification, Or Registration Required

Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Texas or a state recognizing reciprocity via the Nurse Licensure Compact. CPR certified or ability to obtain CPR certification within first six months. Current valid Texas Driver’s License. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Knowledge of professional nursing theory and processes; understanding of family, community and group dynamics. Knowledge of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners rules and Nurse Practice Act. Knowledge of community health nursing principles, practices, techniques, and procedures. Knowledge of program regulations; Title V; public health laws and regulations. Knowledge of medical diagnoses, treatments, and standing delegation orders; QA and data analysis. Leadership and collaboration skills; computer literacy; record-keeping abilities; ability to interpret policies; problem-solving and prioritization. Effective written and verbal communication; ability to build relationships with public, officials, health professionals, and agencies; ability to travel; commitment to HIPAA and confidentiality.
