Summary Dietitian (Clinical) - Home Based Primary Care (HBPC) provides nutrition services in home‑based primary care. Professionals are autonomous and apply evidence‑based nutrition practice guidelines for patients with complex needs.
Qualifications
United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) – must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
Exception for GS‑07 and GS‑09 Only: Dietitians without RDN/RD credential may be given a temporary appointment.
Must have earned a bachelor’s or higher degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university or foreign equivalent (evaluated by ACEND).
English Language Proficiency.
Grade Determinations and KSAs described (GS‑7, GS‑9, GS‑11) as per VA standards.
Duties
Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments using the Nutritional Care Process (NCP).
Develop and implement Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT).
Calculate nutrient requirements and tailor dietary prescriptions.
Document MNT in the medical record (ADIME).
Identify patients needing nutritional support and communicate with the healthcare team.
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.
Provide nutrition education and counseling.
Utilize virtual care technology.
Maintain accurate record keeping and ensure continuous improvement of care quality.
Lead implementation of new initiatives and use data for corrective actions.
Collaborate with Food Operations Section and leadership to enhance veterans’ dining experience.
Work Schedule Full‑time, Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm. Telework: if approved, ad‑hoc basis. Virtual: not a virtual position.
