Compensation Base pay range provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs: $73,939.00/yr – $96,116.00/yr.

Summary The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for a Dietitian (Clinical). The role reports to the Nutrition & Food Service.

Qualifications

United States Citizenship (non‑citizens only if a qualified citizen cannot be recruited).

Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) or Registered Dietitian (RD) – must be registered with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Non‑credentialed Dietitians must hold a bachelor’s or higher degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college/university or foreign equivalent.

Foreign education must be evaluated by ACEND and meet ACEND International Dietitian Education standards to qualify for the CDR exam.

Completed an ACEND‑accredited experiential or supervised practice program and received a verification statement from the program director for eligibility to take the CDR exam.

Current VHA Dietitians under the Grandfathering Provision may not be promoted if they do not meet current RDN/RD requirements.

Grade: Dietitian (Clinical) – GS‑11.

Experience: At least one year as an RDN equivalent to the next lower grade.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must demonstrate KSAs – skill in delivering patient care using the NCP, interpreting research, developing patient‑centered goals, analyzing data, collaborating with stakeholders, and complying with accrediting authorities.

Physical Requirements No pre‑placement physical examination is required.

Duties

Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments using the Nutritional Care Process (NCP) and nutrition‑focused physical examinations.

Develop and implement Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) to address nutrition diagnoses.

Modify MNT plans as needed to achieve positive patient outcomes.

Calculate nutrient requirements and diet restrictions or food/drug interactions.

Document MNT in the medical record using the ADIME format.

Maintain accurate and independent record‑keeping.

Identify patients needing nutritional support and recommend appropriate support modes.

Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.

Assess educational needs and provide tailored nutrition education/counseling to Veterans.

Utilize virtual care technology to improve access to care.

Maintain productivity standards and accurate daily clinical records.

Ensure continuous improvement of safe and quality care for Veterans.

Lead initiatives and use data for continuous improvement.

Comply with The Joint Commission and other accrediting agency standards.

Collaborate with the Food Operations Section to enhance the Veterans’ dining experience.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Compressed/Flexible: Not available. Telework/Virtual: Not applicable.
