The salary range for this position is $22.15 - $28.93 (Hourly Rate). Placement within the salary range is dependent on several factors such as relevant work experience and internal equity. For positions represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range is guided by the rules outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.

Description The

Pharmacy Technician III

reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization\'s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. Under the direction of a registered pharmacist, performs all technical duties associated with the daily operation of the dispensing areas; performs prescription related, unit dose related, and sterile product related functions; performs manufacturing procedures that have been documented in the Department records.

Scheduling

This position is regularly scheduled full-time, 40 hours weekly, with a combination of five 8-hour shifts and four 10-hour shifts.

Shift times are subject to change based upon departmental/patient care needs. The position is anticipated to primarily be rotating with earliest start around 4:30am and latest around 2:00pm, currently. This role includes rotating weekends and holidays.

The primary work location is the OR Pharmacies (cost center 1226). The role rotates to other Northwestern Memorial Hospital pharmacies as needed.

Responsibilities

Prepares medication orders for inpatients and prescriptions for outpatients.

Picks up orders and delivers medications to nursing units.

Schedules intravenous admixture solutions according to the patient\'s medical record and reports any variance to a pharmacist.

Answers the telephone according to hospital policy and screens calls to determine if a pharmacist or technician should handle them.

Enters new drug orders and renewal/refill information into the computerized patient medication profile.

Uses the computer system to assist in all dispensing and inquiry functions.

Compares patient medication bin with pharmacy and nursing records; returns unnecessary/outdated medication to the pharmacy and reconciles use records, reporting discrepancies to a pharmacist.

Receives, prepares, and distributes floor stock requisitions and requisitions for other clinical locations.

Prescribes and distributes dosage forms, compounds drugs as needed for dispensing to patients under pharmacist supervision.

Maintains inventory levels in the dispensing areas and assists with narcotics and narcotic admixtures under policy; conducts narcotic inventories as directed.

Prepares sterile products and extemporaneous/STAT doses; prepares emergency medication systems and cytotoxic agents following aseptic procedures.

Plans daily tasks to provide department services under the direction of a pharmacist and ensures quality and quantity for orders, unit doses, and IV admixtures.

Ensures compliance with hazardous waste collection and disposal procedures.

Quality Management Responsibilities

Assists in maintaining emergency carts, inventory, and controlled substances records. Accurate completion of responsibilities is essential to an efficient, error-free drug distribution system.

Qualifications Required:

High School Diploma

Illinois Pharmacy Technician License (IDFPR)

Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB or ExCPT through NHA required for all those licensed after 2008. Newly licensed Technicians have 2 years from license effective date to obtain certification.

Preferred:

Completion of a Technician Training Program

Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician
