Base pay range $80,000.00/yr - $100,000.00/yr

Hydrographic Surveyor Position Summary We are seeking

Hydrographers

with 4+ years of marine survey experience in the Houston area. Hydrographic surveys will be conducted from vessels up to 45 feet in length. Data collection will include single beam, multi-beam, side scan sonar and towed arrays including magnetometer and sub-bottom devices. This is not an entry level position. This position is to support our marine surveying projects primarily in the Gulf but will also support projects across the United States. The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the US.

Job Responsibilities

Promote and maintain a safe work site through following HSEQ requirements and leading by example.

Acquire nearshore and offshore marine survey data in the field on vessels.

Mobilization & calibration of marine positioning, hydrographic, and geophysical systems on marine survey vessels.

Perform post processing and QA of marine surveying data (positioning, hydrographic, or geophysical).

Understand and follow safety guidelines and procedures.

Participate in and lead hydrographic and geophysical survey projects from inception to completion (i.e. data acquisition, post processing, QA, etc.)

Perform hydrographic surveys in support of dredging projects & beach nourishment.

Collect and process topographic data as referenced to hydrographic applications.

Support the maintenance, upkeep, and documentation of the survey vessel and company vehicles in concert with the vessel captain.

Mobilization & calibration of marine positioning, hydrographic and geophysical systems on marine survey vessels.

Complete regular inspection, repair and maintenance of survey systems

Project & technical report writing

Required Skills

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team.

Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.

Demonstrated knowledge of inland and nearshore hydrographic surveying procedures and data processing techniques.

Demonstrated experience in both single beam and multi-beam hydrographic data collection and processing. Ability to perform all functions for single beam and multi-beam surveys from field to finish.

Demonstrated experience utilizing industry standard hydrographic data collection and post processing software such as: Hypack, Hysweep, QPS Qinsy, Sonarwiz, etc.

Experience utilizing GNSS positioning, underwater acoustic positioning (USBL), multibeam sonars, sound velocity profilers, and computer systems.

Demonstrated experience using AutoCAD to prepare survey deliverables. Experience with Autodesk Civil3D highly desired.

Qualifications

4+ years of experience in hydrographic surveying.

Bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, hydrography, oceanography, geosciences, civil engineering or closely related discipline from an accredited program strongly preferred.

Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Must possess or can obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC).

Preferred Experience

Experience with collection and post processing of side scan sonar data, and geophysical data using towed arrays including magnetometer and sub-bottom devices a plus.

Possession of or ability to obtain NSPS-THSOA Certified Hydrographer (CH), CAT A Hydrographer, Professional Land Surveyor (PLS), Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Geologist (PG) preferred but not required.

Previous work on oil & gas and offshore energy projects will be viewed as highly favorable.

Travel Frequent travel to inland and nearshore areas is required for this position. Travel can consist of single day survey events (i.e., out, and back in the same day); however, some surveys will require overnight stay when multiple days are required to complete. Rotating shift schedules should be expected on large survey and beach nourishment projects. Survey rotations will require weekend work.
