Civil Service Title - Civil Engineer III * IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, CANDIDATES MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF CIVIL ENGINEER, BE REACHABLE ON THE OPEN-COMPETITIVE LIST, OR ELIGIBLE UNDER THE 55-A PROGRAM. PLEASE INDICATE THIS ON YOUR RESUME.* The selected candidate will assist the supervisor in managing and overseeing all structural and safety-related Flag conditions, Critical Findings from tunnels, and Non-Structural Condition Observations (NSCOs). They will convert these into Repair Requests (RR) in the Structure Management System (SMS). Reports are received from NYS DOT, NYC DOT, and other third-party sources. Responsibilities include supervising Borough Engineers and administrative staff in creating and closing RR in SMS, following NYS DOT Bridge Inspection Manual guidelines, managing RR indicators, and overseeing pending activities. The role involves coordinating work with external units, managing emergency response rosters, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, providing technical guidance, reviewing preliminary design drawings, and conducting field visits on city vehicles. Preferred skills include familiarity with NY State Bridge Inspection Manual Flagging Procedure, AutoCAD for reviewing drawings, and a valid New York State driver’s license, which must be maintained throughout employment. Four (4) years of full-time civil engineering experience. A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License, maintained throughout employment. A master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited institution may substitute for one year of experience. To qualify for higher assignment levels, candidates must have at least one year of recent experience as a major contributor or project leader on complex projects requiring specialized expertise.
