About the Job You will work as an Automation Technician for Opella Consumer Healthcare in the production of pharmaceutical products. Your primary responsibility is to provide highly technical electrical, electronic, and control‑system maintenance support and leadership to ensure the safe, reliable, and cGMP‑compliant operation of Opella’s automated manufacturing facilities.
Main Responsibilities
Provide complex troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of equipment and systems, including PLC, computer‑controlled, and servo‑controlled equipment.
Electrical controls: motor starters, relays, control wiring, variable frequency drives, sensors, and AC/DC motors; process controls, digital and analog control circuits.
Mechanical systems and components: conveyors, pumps, valves, pneumatics, bearings, seals, and power‑transmission components (gearboxes, belts, chain drives).
Implement and manage online vendor equipment monitoring and troubleshooting support.
Manage software updates and backups for PLC, servo, and computer‑controlled equipment, saving backups to dedicated file paths on the company network.
Develop and implement plant automation projects, including vision systems, supervisory control systems, and safety interlocks.
Support the Preventive Maintenance program by performing PM activities and assisting in continuous program improvement.
Provide written and oral communication to manufacturing team leaders and management.
Support engineering projects for new equipment installations and improvements to existing installations.
Safely perform work, including adherence to lock‑out/tag‑out policies and confined‑space entry.
Serve as liaison for OEM technical support and parts‑supply contacts.
Mentor other maintenance technicians as a primary resource for solving complex technical equipment issues.
Troubleshoot equipment with emphasis on electrical, automation, and controls.
Read and interpret schematics, manuals, blueprints, and other technical documents.
Communicate with all levels of Manufacturing, Maintenance, and Engineering.
Execute preventive and corrective maintenance work orders.
Keep the work area clean & organized following 5S principles.
Understand and apply mathematics related to machine cycle rates, conveyor speeds, and equipment timing issues.
Perform other tasks as assigned by management, such as changeovers or maintenance excellence initiatives.
Interfaces
Programming experience with Allen Bradley RS LOGIX 500, Allen Bradley RS LOGIX 5000, SIEMENS, and SCHNEIDER PLCs.
About You
Education: High School Diploma or GED. A two‑ or four‑year degree in electrical, electronics, or electromechanical fields is preferred.
Experience: Five (5+) years of demonstrated experience performing maintenance and repairs of automated manufacturing equipment, with an emphasis on electrical and control systems.
Preferred Professional Skills
Ten or more years of demonstrated experience performing maintenance and repairs of automated equipment.
Degree in electrical, electronics, or electromechanical fields.
Electrical license and willingness to maintain the license while employed by Opella.
Experience in a GM/cGMP manufacturing environment.
