Your Mission in Action The Lead Medical Coordinator oversees the medical services for unaccompanied children. The Lead Medical Coordinator will provide exceptional care to children, delivering comprehensive nursing care to those with various health concerns. The role involves overseeing health services, coordinating timely and appropriate health services, supervising other Medical Coordinators, providing staff training on medical, dental and public health topics, and developing and maintaining policies and procedures for confidential health record management, triage, emergency response, environmental health and safety, and post‑release health care planning and coordination.
Responsibilities
Serve as the point of contact with the Division of Health for Unaccompanied Children (DHUC) Medical Team.
Provide nursing care to children, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications and educating on various health concerns.
Assess, document, and manage pediatric patient health conditions and treatment plans, and maintain accurate records in compliance with regulatory standards.
Support and enforce infection‑control policies and develop care plans for the medical isolation population following regulatory standards.
Coordinate medical appointments and follow through on medications and treatment as prescribed.
Coordinate and oversee the prescribed nutritional needs and diet and fluid intake for UCs as prescribed.
Track all UC Portal medical data and files, ensuring proper immunization schedules are used per ORR, DHHS, and TVFC policies and ensuring timely reporting of medical incidents.
Track and ensure specialized services such as dental treatment, psychological, psychiatric, family planning, and emergency care are provided to UCs, and identify other specialized health services as needed.
Serve as liaison with medical service providers in the community.
Coach and support staff to ensure they have the necessary tools and resources to optimize performance, ensure established program goals, and achieve operational excellence.
Communicate with direct program administration to report medical incidents.
Organize and deliver regularly scheduled staff meetings to communicate updates, projects, and initiatives.
Work in collaboration with leadership and People and Culture Team to arrange training, coordinate or provide in‑service training, and work closely with the management team to interview, hire, and onboard new employees.
Regularly review employee performance, including goals and progress, to provide developmental feedback and facilitate growth and development, drafting and issuing evaluations.
Qualifications
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a Bachelor's; or higher health‑related qualification (e.g., Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner).
One (1) year of employment in public health or a healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care.
Previous supervisory experience.
Bilingual in English and Spanish (speak, read, and write).
Valid TX driver's license with auto insurance.
Must be 21 years of age or older per licensing requirements.
Ability to build rapport with children and maintain professionalism.
Strong documentation, organizational, interpersonal, and critical thinking skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, and UC information systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) years of nursing experience.
Travel
This position may require travel as needed based on program requirements.
