The Commercial Loan Manager oversees the commercial lending department, leading loan officers and analysts in developing, structuring, and managing business loans. This role focuses on driving portfolio growth, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining strong client relationships. You will balance leadership responsibilities with direct involvement in high-value or complex lending relationships.
The salary range for this position is $90,000-100,000 annually, depending on experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Oversight: Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of commercial loan officers and support staff. Establish performance goals, provide coaching, and conduct regular evaluations. Ensure staff compliance with policies, lending regulations, and credit union/bank standards. Review, approve, or escalate large/complex loan applications within delegated authority. Monitor overall loan portfolio performance, ensuring proper risk management and loan quality. Resolve escalated client issues and provide strategic solutions.
Strategic Growth & Business Development: Develop strategies to grow the commercial loan portfolio while balancing risk and profitability. Identify new markets, industries, and opportunities for lending products. Build and maintain relationships with key business clients, referral sources, and community partners.
Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure adherence to all federal, state, and institutional lending regulations. Work closely with auditors, regulators, and executive leadership to ensure clean compliance audits. Implement and refine credit policies and lending procedures. Collaborate with senior management on credit risk strategy, loan growth targets, and capital planning. Prepare detailed reports on loan portfolio performance, delinquency trends, and department productivity.
Community Engagement: Represent the credit union at local business events, trade shows, and community outreach programs to build brand visibility and attract potential business members.
Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field required. (Master’s degree or MBA preferred). Required Knowledge: Advanced knowledge of commercial loan products, credit analysis, and risk assessment. Familiarity with applicable banking regulations and credit union policies. Advanced understanding of financial statement analysis, credit risk assessment, loan structuring, and lending software. Must be eligible to work in the United States Experience: A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in commercial lending with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or management role. Proven ability to lead and motivate a lending team, set goals, and manage performance. Strong negotiation, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills. In-depth understanding of commercial lending regulations, compliance standards, and credit union/bank policies. Certified Commercial Loan Officer (CCLO), Certified Lender Business Banker (CLBB), or equivalent. Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, and work on a computer for extended periods. Ability to travel locally to attend meetings, inspections, or community events as needed. Seniority level
