Rail Division
is looking for dependable, detail-oriented
Rail Maintenance Service Center Workers.
This recruitment will fill
nine
(9) career service vacancies
and may be used to establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies that occur over the next twelve months, at the discretion of the hiring manager. As a Rail Maintenance Service Center Worker, you will communicate with multiple Rail sections, including Sound Transit and King County Transit at all levels for special materials management-related projects, requisitioning parts, warranty administration, and creating Excel reports pertaining to inventory and/or finance. Additional responsibilities include maintaining inventory, issuing and receiving parts, purchasing, maintaining stock levels, and opening and closing work orders.
Link Light Rail
Metro Transit's Rail Division is responsible for operating and maintaining Link Light Rail service on a 24.7- mile route from south of Sea-Tac Airport to Northgate. Expansion over the next five years alone will include the addition of more than 20 stations and 40 miles of light rail track which is a critical part of the region's transportation network. The light rail line is a critical part of the region's transportation network and carries more than 79,000 weekday daily riders. Working in Rail offers a wide variety of opportunities to showcase your skills as the Rail Division grows. This planned growth will create many promotional and training opportunities for personnel. Who May Apply This recruitment is open to all qualified applicants internal and external and will be used to fill current career service vacancies at Rail and may be used to establish an eligibility list to fill future career service and/or temporary vacancies that may occur over the next twelve months.
This position is considered safety sensitive. Applicants for these positions are required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and subsequent to commencement of employment, will be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with Federal DOT alcohol and controlled substance testing program protocols.
Work Schedule This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible. Employees will work a 40-hour-per-week schedule with two consecutive days off. The w ork schedule may include non-standard work hours including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Schedules are based on a seniority "pick" system , which occurs 3 times per year.
Wage note:
Per the union contract shift differentials are paid to those working second and third shifts. Shift pay is 5% for the second shift and 7.5% for the third shift, on top of hourly pay.
Upon successful completion of Metro's driver's training, or if you have a valid Washington State Class B CDL, w ith airbrake endorsement , hires will have additional premium pay up to $2.00 per hour added to their wage rate .

Rail Maintenance Service Center Worker,
you will:
Purchase parts and products, create requisitions using our Oracle system for goods and services; reconcile or track budgets relating to expenses. Issue materials, supplies, and equipment; sort and stock items in designated areas. Verify items received for description, requisition number, order dates and quantity and records receipt; verify receipts against work orders for vehicles or system equipment awaiting parts. Enter all transactions and related data into a computer information tracking system ensuring all maintenance and warranty information is complete and entered properly. Conduct and record physical inventory of stock items on a regular basis; issue tools and store tools upon return; ship parts and equipment to vendors. Assist Chiefs in gathering and maintaining information required to establish a schedule of maintenance activities for vehicles, equipment, and related items. Assist in determining life cycle trends of parts, materials, supplies and equipment. Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts; pick up and deliver parts and other driving duties.
Example of driving duties to include but are not limited to:
Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned vehicle Drive vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) over 26,000 lbs. MSC CDL Drivers will be transporting loads of many different shapes and sizes with load weights ranging between 500lbs and 14,000lbs Pick up and safely transport goods, etc. to the intended destination Ensure contents are properly secured in a truck, flatbed to prevent damage/injury Follow and maintain loading/unloading protocols, using chains and binders to secure cargo, and re-checking their stability throughout trips Confirm that the contents of each shipment load match the manifest document Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip Check weather conditions and road reports before departure Notify Lead/Chief of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered Adhere to rules and regulations
Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Intermediate experience with materials management and inventory control of parts, materials, supplies, and equipment with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the work. Working knowledge of and skill in the application of practices of materials management, purchasing and inventory control; quality assurance and warranty control programs. Knowledge of warranty agreement terms and conditions. Knowledge of and skill in the application of stocking and inventory control principles. Working knowledge of or familiarity with common parts, materials, equipment, and supplies. Skill in reviewing, interpreting and understanding technical reports and warranty agreements. Experience working with Maintenance Management Information Systems (MMIS) used for parts ordering, inventory management, and purchasing, and/or similar electronic systems. Skill in working with Excel; must be proficient in creating spreadsheets, using formulas, producing reports, etc. Skill in oral and written communications intended for all staff levels of the organization; including reading, business writing and following instructions. Skill in establishing and maintaining working relationships; skill and demonstrated values of respect and social equity in working effectively with a diverse population in varying occupations or situations. Washington State Class B driver's license with airbrake endorsement Crane Certification Physical Requirements The job requires basic levels of physical skill, including regular kneeling, bending, squatting, reaching above and below the waist, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 pounds. It will also require occasional lifting and carrying of items, weighing up to 100 pounds, with assistance and/or with the use of material handling equipment. It may also include pick-up, moving/transferring, and delivery of parts.
Work Environment Work is performed in an industrial setting where the worker is exposed to or near heavy operating machinery, high voltage, adverse weather conditions, uneven surfaces; catwalks/metal grating, noxious or toxic gasses and chemicals. The noise level is quiet to occasionally loud. Hearing protection and eye protection are required in some areas, and hard hats and other appropriate personal protective equipment may be required on occasion. Selection Process Applications will be screened for completeness, clarity and competitiveness. Competitive candidates will be invited to participate in test to assess your competency with Microsoft Excel. Employment offers will be finalized after successfully passing the exams, a physical examination, drug screen, drug and alcohol background check, references and reviews of driving records.
Test Details:
There will be a timed computer-based Microsoft Excel test. Questions will be on the most commonly used Microsoft Excel 2016 features such as file management, editing, formatting, analysis, graphics, printing and tools and automation.
