The Genetics Counseling Coordinator, under the general supervision of the director for oncology, is responsible for providing genetic counseling to all assigned clients and developing the cancer risk assessment program. Responsibilities

Assists in scheduling, billing, and chart management: Identifies insurance or billing problems and communicates with the insurance coordinator regarding resolution. Coordinates sending of specimens to outside laboratories, handling all blood samples and coordinating authorizations. Develops written materials for referral practices and patients, works with physicians to streamline referral processes, and develops patient education materials and counseling policies. Provides genetic counseling services to specialty cancer patients at all three HMH sites, including risk assessment using models like BRCAPRO and GAIL, and identifies cancer genetic syndromes based on personal and family history. Keeps abreast of literature to provide up-to-date recommendations and develops ongoing patient care plans based on risk assessment and test results. Identifies barriers to program effectiveness, works with staff to address concerns, and improves the program. Presents on recent developments in genetics, provides in-services, lectures, and CME programs. Surveys literature and online sources for information on genetic risk assessment and testing. Maintains communication with patients for recontact and additional testing updates. Provides case management, including reporting results and explaining implications to patients and physicians. Provides education on procedures, tests, risks, and benefits, spending 2-2.5 hours per patient. Engages in outreach to physicians and co-workers regarding risk assessment services and discusses utility in various practices. Performs other duties as assigned and adheres to organizational standards. Qualifications

Master's Degree in Genetics/Genetics Counseling or related field. At least 2 years of experience in Genetics Counseling. Board certified or eligible by the American Board of Genetic Counseling or RN-genetics organization. Excellent communication skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Preferred Qualifications
