Speech Language Pathologist (Healthcare)
Evaluate patients within twenty-four (24) hours, or 1 business day of physician referral. If unable to complete evaluation in 24 hours, documentation in medical record clearly defines cause for delay.
Develop effective treatment plans and obtain approval from the referring physician. Treat patients according to the physician treatment plan.
Supervise Speech Language Pathologist Assistants in direct patient care and related activities, following state practice act.
Communicate with supervisors and other health team members regarding patient progress, problems, and plans.
Participate in Patient Care Conferences, Utilization Review meetings, and Rehabilitation Conferences as needed.
Conduct in-service training programs for staff in the facility.
Record evaluations, daily treatment notes, weekly progress notes, and recertification documentation as per the Speech and Language Pathologist Board State Practice Act and third-party payer requirements.
Record treatment changes according to policy and procedures.
Instruct patients’ families or nursing staff in maintenance programs and caregiver training for discharge preparation.
Participate in discharge planning.
Serve as a clinical preceptor for CFY/RFP Speech Language Pathologists and student programs.
Comply with the Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Bureau State Practice Act and facility policies.
Maintain positive, effective, and appropriate relationships with patients, families, staff, and colleagues.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise CFY - Speech Clinical Fellows and assist nursing staff with training Restorative Aides.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Pathology; Master’s or Doctorate preferred.
Proficient in computer skills, including Casamba and Point Click Care.
Ability to read technical procedures, policies, and respond effectively to questions.
Ability to apply mathematical concepts and solve practical problems.
Interpreting instructions in various formats.
Licensed as a Speech Therapist in the state, with ongoing continuing education and license maintenance.
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling; occasional lifting over 100 pounds, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; visual acuity.
Work Environment:
Typically low to moderate noise levels; accommodations available for disabilities.
