As an Examiner, you will conduct Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). The role involves reviewing claims, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran, aiming to positively impact each Veteran by providing an exceptional examination experience.

These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial for determining the benefits Veterans can receive for service‑connected health issues. Your clinical insights will facilitate access to treatment subspecialists when necessary, creating continuity of care for those who need it most.

Clinical examiners will use a web‑based examination form in a proprietary online system to capture patient information throughout the process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, work independently and collaboratively, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be adaptable to changing situations. Basic computer skills are required.

Note:

This position does NOT involve prescribing or treatment planning/delivery.

Pay:

Base + Monthly Incentive = $135,179 – $165,172 per year.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing functional impact of disabilities (10% travel to other LSGS clinics).

Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the Veteran’s medical history and condition.

Render objective medical opinions based on examination findings and record review, describing the extent of health issues and impact on work and daily activities.

Manage case‑management system tasks, organize workload, submit findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance team.

Collaborate with healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts to obtain additional medical information as needed.

Document examination findings, recommendations, and medical opinions in clear, concise reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.

Partner with all Loyal Source departments to use resources and meet deadlines for optimal performance.

Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, maintaining high accuracy and quality.

Submit thorough examination findings to the QA team and comply with all VA training requirements.

Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA compliance protocols.

Qualifications

Graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by a U.S. Department of Education‑recognized accrediting institution.

Valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; not barred from practice in any U.S. state, DC, or territory.

At least 1 year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

Preferred: Experience conducting medical disability examinations or in a related field.

Basic Life Support certification (renewable).

Preferred: Military experience or familiarity with the military or veteran communities.

Advantageous: Specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas.

Proficient in conducting comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence‑based medical opinions.

Compassionate and empathetic approach toward patients.

Strong analytical, critical thinking, and communication skills; ability to convey complex medical concepts clearly.

Uphold ethical standards, integrity, and fairness in disability evaluations.

Detail‑oriented with focus on accuracy and compliance with LS and VA standards.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.

Excellent organizational and time‑management skills; ability to manage multiple initiatives in a fast‑paced environment.

Strong customer focus and sense of urgency.

Authorized to work in the United States and to meet federal contractor requirements.

Other Relevant Skills

Reasoning ability: Apply common sense, carry out detailed instructions, and resolve simple problems.

Technological ability: Proficient with MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web‑based platforms, and electronic medical records. Familiarity with Teams and web‑based learning management systems preferred.

Physical requirements: Prolonged periods standing and sitting at a desk; lift up to 15 pounds; full range of motion for examinations.

Travel: 10% travel supporting other clinics; additional travel for required training or company events.

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm (standard schedule); holidays – clinics closed.
