The Department of Pediatrics, Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University in Augusta, Georgia is actively seeking a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor to serve as a Pediatric Palliative Care physician. This position does not need the requirements to be on a tenure track.
Responsibilities
Patient Care - 90% The position provides palliative care consultations for patients from birth to young adulthood and includes prenatal consultations for pregnant mothers anticipating delivery of an infant with congenital malformations or other conditions with anticipated NICU care. Clinical care includes supportive care for medically-complex patients or those with life-limiting conditions. The program focuses on patient- and family-centered care with support across care sites (inpatient, outpatient, and home via Telephone/Telehealth) and across time (prenatal to age 21). The provider will assist with development of symptom management plans for inpatient and home use, psychosocial support for families, and care coordination to help families navigate the healthcare system. The role interfaces with multiple inpatient teams and outpatient providers to coordinate care for patients and support for families/caregivers. The position will help direct utilization of the multi-disciplinary Pediatric Palliative Care team and maintain up-to-date patient records with weekday coverage.
Education/Teaching - 10% Ideal candidates will demonstrate excellent clinical skills, apply evidence-based medicine, and contribute to education on palliative care for trainees. Responsibilities include mentorship, clinical supervision, and consultation to residents/medical students/staff at AU and development of deeper educational experiences for trainees in palliative care, including training for residents/students/staff at AU/Wellstar at MCG via didactics and bedside teaching.
Required Qualifications
Medical degree from an accredited medical school/university or equivalent, Board Certified or Board Eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine or equivalent clinical experience.
Must have or be eligible for a State of Georgia Medical License, Federal DEA, and CPR certification.
South Carolina licensure is helpful as patients from SC are served.
Assistant Professor
- Early level career with appropriate post-graduate training.
Associate Professor
- Mid level career with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Professor
- Senior level career with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor or comparable training, background, and experience.
Required faculty employment qualifications for USG institutions and all academic ranks:
Consistent with SACSCOC accreditation requirements;
Evidence of teaching ability;
Evidence of scholarly activity and ability in other duties;
Successful experience (waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements);
Desirable personal qualities as determined by interview, biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits This position is fiscal year based and works year-round. The intended work commitment (FTE) is 1.0 and is full-time.
