Applications are invited for the position of Specialist Biomedical Scientist in this busy, dynamic, and well-equipped Molecular Pathology department. The post will focus on analysis and reporting of results, working closely with and supporting Clinical Scientists, Biomedical Scientists and Consultant Pathologists. Molecular Pathology provides a south-east regional service and may include samples from other regions when necessary. Examples of Department approved roles/tasks work are described below. The post holders will support the Team Managers with quality management processes, including audit, method verification, SOP development, and preparation for UKAS ISO 15189 accreditation. The successful candidate will learn laboratory processes as part of the background to the analysis they perform but the role is not laboratory based. The post holder will work with Clinical Scientists, Consultant Pathologists, Biomedical Scientists and Health Care Support Workers, and will contribute to the clinical implementation of a new Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Training on interpretation and reporting of results across all platforms will be provided. Depending on background and training requirements, the successful candidate may need to complete a Post Graduate qualification in Molecular Pathology and Genomic Medicine. There is an expectation of initiative and motivation for self-directed study with support from senior staff to support ongoing clinical development. The line management for the role will be provided by the band 7 Team Managers; however, certain aspects may be delegated to Principal Clinical Scientists for day-to-day work such as analysis and reporting. The successful candidate will be supported by Clinical Scientists and other Team Managers, with assigned mentors as they rotate and learn new tasks. The successful post holder will work closely with Clinical Scientists, Consultant Pathologists, Biomedical Scientists and Health Care Support Workers. Qualifications
