Job Overview We are delighted to seek applications for an Advanced Specialist Biomedical Scientist (Training) with extended tissue dissection in the IPS Histopathology laboratory based on the Bradford Royal Infirmary site. In addition to the tissue dissection role, the successful candidate will lead training for IPS on the Bradford Royal Infirmary site. This post is a unique collaboration between IPS and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Integrated Pathology Solutions LLP is an innovative joint‑venture pathology service between Airedale NHS Foundation Trust (AGH), Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BRI) and Harrogate & District NHS Foundation Trust. This partnership delivers a high‑quality pathology service through collaboration between three Trusts for the benefit of patient and service users.
The IPS laboratory on the BRI site receives specimen samples ranging from category A to E. As an Advanced Specialist BMS with the Diploma in Expert Practice in Histological Dissection, you will work with other Biomedical scientists and Medical Laboratory Assistants, as well as other members of the department's clinical team, dealing with a range of specimen types covering sub‑specialist areas such as gastrointestinal, gynaecological, head and neck, osteoarticular, and urology specimens. You will undertake the role of expert dissector in a range of Histopathology sub‑specialities and will achieve competency in the dissection of category A, B and C specimens.
While the role is based at the Bradford site, the successful candidate will be employed by Airedale NHS Foundation Trust as part of the joint venture arrangements. Occasional travel to other IPS sites will be required in fulfilment of the role.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an excellent knowledge of Histopathology and must have HCPC Registration, hold an IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent, have the IBMS Diploma of Expert Practice in Histopathological Dissection plus a minimum of three years post registration and be a Member/Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences.
The department in conjunction with BTHFT will support and guide the training; the candidate is expected to liaise with the Consultant staff, Advanced/Expert Practitioners and motivate themselves via self‑directed learning.
Previous experience of the use and maintenance of documentation such as SOPs and Audits would be desirable.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Criteria
Biomedical Science degree or equivalent qualification
HCPC registration as Biomedical Scientist
IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Histopathology or equivalent qualification or experience that evidences work at equivalent level
Relevant post graduate qualification conducive with Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science Status (MSc)
Desirable Criteria
Membership of profession body such as IBMS
Holds a General Management Qualification
Experience Essential Criteria
Significant discipline specific experience and knowledge
Experience of working within a Histopathology laboratory
Evidence of Continuous Profession Development
Experience of Pathology IT systems
Experience of Pathology Quality management systems
Experience of training junior staff
Experience of implementing new techniques and technologies
Experience of writing/ reviewing SOPs in line with local or national guidelines
