Registered Nurse – Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) – Kiwani (PCN 44690)
The State of Connecticut, Department of Children and Families (DCF), is recruiting a registered nurse for the PRTF Unit at Kiwani, located in Middletown, CT.
Position Highlights
Location: Kiwani, Middletown, CT
Employment type: Full‑time, 40 hours per week
Shift: Second (2nd) shift, 2:45 P.M. – 11:15 P.M.
Schedule: Week 1 – Saturday & Sunday off; Week 2 – Friday & Tuesday off
Bonus: Eligible for a $3,000 “recruitment and retention” bonus after 1 year of service (prorated for part‑time)
Responsibilities
Implement the nursing process independently with individuals.
Carry out physician's orders regarding diet, medication, and treatment.
Perform assessments, change dressings, and monitor patient status.
Document nursing interventions on medical records.
Maintain controlled drug records and ensure security.
Respond to emergencies and participate in an interdisciplinary treatment team.
Administer routine tests, conduct training, and assist in outpatient clinics.
Provide related medical or mental health specialty services.
Participate in psychotherapeutic and rehabilitation interventions.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Professional nursing theory, practice, and ethics.
Understanding of current medications, therapeutic nursing interventions, and quality standards.
Cultural and socio‑economic sensitivity.
Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Leadership in teaching professional behaviors and fostering teamwork.
Emergency response and ability to seek supervision.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
Current registration as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut or a Multistate/Compact Registered Nurse license.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a psychiatric setting.
Special Requirements
Must possess a valid RN license in Connecticut or a multistate/compact license.
May be required to be fluent in a foreign language or English‑sign language proficiency.
May be required to travel.
Working Conditions
May be required to lift and restrain individuals.
Exposure to communicable/infectious diseases and risk of injury from assaultive or abusive individuals.
Exposure to disagreeable conditions.
