Manufacturing Tooling Design Engineer
Join us as a Manufacturing Tooling Design Engineer at General Motors in the Autonomous Robotic Center, part of our Manufacturing System Design and Deployment organization. This hands‑on role involves designing and developing cutting‑edge manufacturing tooling using Siemens NX and Teamcenter to enable rapid execution and precision on the production floor.
What You'll Do
Tool Design Development: Create and refine manufacturing tooling that drives efficiency and performance on the production floor.
Quality Assurance: Lead critical design reviews to ensure first‑time‑right quality in tooling development.
Safety Compliance: Champion safety by ensuring all equipment and processes meet rigorous standards.
Collaboration: Partner with Product Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and Quality teams to deploy systems that hit production targets.
Data Analysis: Use production data to uncover insights, drive improvements, and inform tooling decisions.
Problem‑Solving: Tackle manufacturing challenges head‑on with root cause analysis and corrective action strategies.
Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement enhancements that boost productivity and product quality.
Documentation and Reporting: Keep detailed records and share actionable insights with stakeholders.
Training and Development: Mentor teammates on tooling best practices, equipment operation, and quality standards.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering – or 10+ years of relevant design experience.
Proficiency in Siemens NX software.
5+ years of hands‑on tooling design experience.
Familiarity with safety compliance and equipment buy‑off processes (e.g., G‑Comply).
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Advanced degree in a related engineering field.
Experience designing robotic end effectors and tooling.
Knowledge of additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping techniques.
Certifications in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar methodologies.
Industry experience in automotive or aerospace manufacturing.
