Overview
Fire – EMS Lab Instructor – Advanced Life Support Paramedic role at Virginia's Community College System. Virginia Peninsula Community College seeks an instructor to lead and guide fire and emergency medical services Advanced Life Support and Paramedic students through psychomotor skills development, evaluation, and related activities. Responsibilities
Instruct and guide students through psychomotor skill introduction, acquisition, reinforcement, mastery, and evaluation in fire and emergency medical services education programs. Provide simulation activities, tutoring, and remedial assistance; give feedback to program faculty on skill acquisition and mastery. Provide instructional resources to meet state-mandated instructor-to-student ratios for lab/practical skills and simulations. Maintain, inventory, and manage assigned equipment and lab/classroom spaces. Serve as a lead lab instructor/mentor as designated by the department head to orient new lab instructors to College policies, procedures, and expectations. Perform other duties as assigned. Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned and assist the agency or state government in emergencies as needed. Qualifications
KSA/Required Qualifications
Current unrestricted certification as a Paramedic (National Registry and/or Virginia Certification). Knowledge
Knowledge of fire and emergency medical services (essential life support), education standards, and scope of practice. Knowledge of competency-based educational techniques. Knowledge of standardized patient concepts, processes, and practices. Knowledge of curricula and accreditation standards. Skills
Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Strong computer skills. Ability
Instruct students through psychomotor skill introduction, acquisition, and evaluation of psychomotor skills performance; provide simulation activities, tutoring, and remedial assistance. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students in a diverse educational environment. Work at all campus and off-campus locations; work in adverse environmental conditions. Work in IDLH (immediately dangerous to life and health) atmospheres and situations. Appropriately don, wear, and doff PPE including coat, pants, boots, gloves, hood, helmet, eye protection, respirator, and SCBA. Complete department/program-specific employee entrance and annual in-service training; maintain minimum qualifications and hours per month/semester as established by policies. Current unrestricted certification in any of the following areas: Virginia Firefighter II, Virginia Fire Instructor II, Virginia Firefighter I and II Train-the-Trainer, Virginia Fire Officer I, and related Virginia certifications. Current instructor-level certifications in: BLS, PHTLS, ACLS, PALS, EPC, PEPP, AMLS, LTC, TECC, and related programs. Other Details
