TSS Solutions, an Acorn Capital Management Company, leads the defense electronics industry by delivering innovative, high-quality, and cost-effective technical services. Specializing in modernizing air surveillance Radar and SATCOM systems, TSS Solutions enhances operational and financial performance for mission-critical applications. Since its founding in 1991, TSS Solutions has collaborated with top aerospace and defense brands, including Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin. The company is dedicated to building innovative products and providing world-class engineering services to support global customers and protect national interests.

Mission

TSS Solutions is a mission-driven organization focused on delivering next-generation RADAR, SATCOM, and tactical military communications systems to the warfighter. We operate with the agility and intensity of a special operations team—small, focused, and committed to solutions that work when it matters most. Our mechanical engineers don't just design components; they create systems that must perform flawlessly in the world's most demanding operational environments.

Position Summary

We are seeking a multidisciplinary Mechanical Engineer with 5–7 years of experience to lead the design, analysis, and development of mechanical systems for advanced defense electronics platforms. This role demands a leader who can bridge mechanical design, electronics packaging, and systems integration while maintaining a relentless focus on mission success. The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise, proven project leadership, and the ability to deliver ruggedized solutions from concept through field deployment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead mechanical design efforts for complex electronics packaging, including RADAR systems, SATCOM terminals, and tactical communications equipment

Develop 3D CAD models and detailed drawing packages using SolidWorks, ensuring compliance with military standards (MIL-STD) and manufacturing requirements

Conduct structural and thermal analysis using finite element analysis (FEA) and classical engineering techniques to validate designs for shock, vibration, and environmental extremes

Design for low-volume production and field serviceability, including reverse engineering of legacy systems for modernization programs

Collaborate with RF engineers, electrical engineers, and systems architects to optimize mechanical designs for thermal management, EMI/RFI shielding, and signal integrity

Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles to integrate mechanical design with broader system architectures

Documentation & Quality

Develop and maintain configuration-controlled documentation, including bills of materials (BOMs), technical drawings per ASME Y14.100, and assembly procedures

Support Air Force Technical Order (TO) compliance and coordinate with metrology teams for mechanical inspection and quality assurance

Participate in Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR), presenting technical solutions and design rationale to customers and stakeholders

Interface with machine shops, fabricators, and suppliers to ensure manufacturability, quality, and cost-effectiveness

Lead mechanical engineering tasks within cross-functional project teams, managing timelines, deliverables, and technical risk

Support business development and proposal efforts by providing technical input, cost estimates, and engineering assessments

Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal training programs on mechanical design best practices

Support field testing, system integration, and troubleshooting activities to ensure operational readiness

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline

5–7 years of mechanical design experience in electronics packaging, aerospace, or defense applications

Expert proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling, assembly design, and drawing generation

Demonstrated experience with mechanical design for low-volume production, including legacy system reverse engineering and modernization

Strong understanding of PCB layout integration, digital/RF electronics housing, and thermal management strategies

Working knowledge of Air Force Technical Orders (TOs), metrology tools, and mechanical inspection processes

Ability to develop detailed BOMs, drawing packages, and configuration-controlled documentation

Experience with SolidWorks PDM (user-level required; admin-level preferred) and configuration management systems

Hands-on experience with structural and thermal analysis (FEA and classical methods) to validate design performance

Proven ability to work with machine shops and fabricators to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM)

Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience presenting technical material to customers and leadership

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment

U.S. Citizenship required (position requires eligibility for a Secret security clearance)

Preferred Qualifications

Active Secret security clearance

Experience in defense, aerospace, or military electronics programs with exposure to acquisition processes

Knowledge of ASME Y14.100 standards and GD&T principles

Exposure to Altium CoDesigner for electromechanical integration and wire harness design

Familiarity with AutoCAD, Altium, or other CAD tools for interdisciplinary collaboration

Basic understanding of Radio Frequency (RF) concepts and phased array antenna systems

Certification or coursework in project management (PMP), Lean manufacturing, or Six Sigma

Previous experience as a technical lead, trainer, or mentor in engineering settings

Hands-on field experience with military systems, testing, or operational environments

Core Competencies

Advanced Mechanical Engineering (CAD, FEA, stress analysis, thermal management, electronics integration)

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and systems thinking

Technical documentation and quality compliance (ASME Y14.100, Air Force TOs)

Process development and project management in fast-paced environments

Cross-functional collaboration with RF, electrical, and systems engineering teams

Customer-facing communication and presentation skills

Leadership, mentoring, and training development
