Field Service Technician – State of Tennessee
Motorola Solutions is a global leader in public safety communications technology. The Field Service Technician supports installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of advanced digital radio and communication systems for government and public safety customers across Tennessee.
Job Description
Provide technical support for specialized systems and product applications, including advanced troubleshooting of software-driven electronics and provisioning of communication system infrastructure.
Maintain, optimize, test, document, and support complex communications systems.
Perform preventative maintenance routines to ensure proper system operation with a focus on trend analysis and documentation.
Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered during system maintenance, upgrades, or support issues.
Collaborate with Engineering, Project Management, Sales, and Customer Service teams to maintain, optimize, and support advanced communication systems.
Manage wired communication systems (LAN/WAN) and network equipment, including RF interfaces, wired/wireless systems, and networking hardware.
Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
Maintain server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshoot system/application issues.
Work independently with minimal supervision while ensuring quality service to customers.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in public safety communications, RF systems, or related fields.
Proficient in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance (cabling, routers, switches, firewalls).
Experience with Motorola conventional, SmartNet, MCC Console, Secure Operations, ASTRO A7.x digital systems, or similar.
Strong knowledge of RF infrastructure technologies (SmartZone, SmartNet, Console, ASTRO, Trunked equipment).
Experience with P25, LMR, Smartnet, SmartZone, RF infrastructure, ASTRO systems, radios, and consoles.
Excellent communications skills and a professional image.
Valid U.S. driver’s license, no traffic violations, and ability to obtain required security clearance.
At least one network certification (Network+, Security+, CCNA) preferred.
Location & Travel
Requires local travel throughout Tennessee, with occasional overnight trips (≤10%).
Position requires on‑call rotations for outages (24/7/365 during weekends and holidays).
MUST live within commutable distance to public safety customers in Tennessee.
Salary Target base salary range: $65,000 – $90,000 USD, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
