Job Summary The Building Engineer is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and repairing building systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. This includes performing preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs across plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and safety systems. The role supports day-to-day facility operations to maintain optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform maintenance and repairs to mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems.
Conduct preventive maintenance on fire safety systems, exit signs, fire extinguishers, compressors, air filters, and other building systems.
Run weekly generator tests and perform dock leveler, restraint, and lubrication maintenance.
Carry out basic plumbing and electrical fixes, including replacing light bulbs, sink drains, and toilet batteries.
Escort and assist vendors as needed.
Complete filter changes for rooftop generators and conduct lubrication tasks.
Maintain energy management programs and ensure all systems operate efficiently.
Ensure compliance with all codes, regulations, and safety directives.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, following hazardous material storage and disposal procedures.
Review inspections for HVAC, fire alarm, and plumbing systems to ensure compliance and optimal performance.
Lead by example, share knowledge, and mentor others in maintenance practices and safety standards.
Required Experience
3+ years of relevant experience in building or facilities maintenance.
High School Diploma, GED, or trade school diploma (or equivalent experience).
Strong knowledge of basic electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Physical ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs., climb stairs/ladders, and stand/walk for extended periods.
Nice-to-Have Experience
Prior supervisory or shift management experience.
Universal CFC certification.
Certifications or licenses required by local or state jurisdictions.
Experience in maintaining commercial HVAC rooftop systems.
Required Skills
Electrical, plumbing, and mechanical maintenance.
Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
Customer service and professionalism.
Preferred Skills
Air compressor and dock system maintenance.
Forklift operation and safety.
Fire and life safety systems knowledge.
HVAC rooftop systems (commercial).
Additional Skills
Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook).
Forklift and aerial lift certifications (preferred).
Organizational and communication skills.
Ability to calculate figures such as percentages and fractions for maintenance reporting.
