Amazon
Operations Engineer, GEMS NA Ops Engineering
Amazon created one of the most sophisticated supply chains in the world. From the introduction of Amazon Prime to the use of advanced technology for package delivery, Amazon consistently drives change from the front of the pack.
As an Operations Engineer, you will lead and manage the lifecycle of challenging cross‑functional projects, developing and delivering the next generation of sortation and distribution solutions. You will play an integral part in planning and implementation of the facility network infrastructure—including new builds, retrofits, expansions and program initiatives—while partnering with internal customers and stakeholders to ensure a timely handover.
In this role you will work with engineers and design teams to deliver physical distribution systems worldwide. You will manage technology or integration projects, deliver solutions on time, manage schedules, mitigate risks, and keep engineering deliverables on scope.
Key responsibilities
Work independently with internal and external teams to manage the lifecycle of challenging projects and act as owner of project objectives and targets.
Actively participate in engineering reviews and make a tangible impact on proposed solutions, system architecture, and facility processes.
Partner with teams, stakeholders, and external vendors to set priorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules to meet deadlines.
Lead execution efforts in delivering systems and automated equipment designs; perform equipment/system installation, throughput and safety qualifications.
Lead effective meetings, set objectives, bring the right people into discussion, and drive detailed alignment.
Communicate project status, risk analysis, and mitigation plans; answer project questions and produce clear summaries for leadership.
Articulate system and equipment designs, including layouts, technical specifications, and functional capabilities.
Manage change order controls, purchase orders, and invoice validations.
Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders across multiple projects.
Lead process improvement initiatives that improve engineering efficiencies and optimize value and delivery.
Travel up to 75% domestically; travel intensity can vary, including up to three weeks in a row.
A day in the life
You manage one or multiple projects that vary in scope, complexity, and duration. Daily tasks include site coordination with operations teams and contractors, proactive project progress analysis, resource identification, and solution creation. You facilitate planning and implementation meetings, capture detailed notes, and follow through on decisions. You review and approve sorter system functional specifications and track configuration creation with automation teams.
Supporting or training other engineering team members, you apply Amazon’s safety, mechanical, electrical, and controls installation standards and guidelines. You also perform system installation quality, safety, throughput, and performance qualifications, regularly communicating progress to stakeholders.
