Airport Operations Coordinator – Airside (HOU) Join the City of Houston to ensure safe and compliant airside operations at Houston Hobby Airport.

Position Overview Applicant type: All persons interested. Division/Section: William P. Hobby / Operations – Airside. Workdays & Hours: Shift work, including rotation, weekends, and holidays (subject to change).

Purpose of the Division Airside Operations is responsible for the functionality and safety of the Air Operations Area (AOA) by maintaining compliance with FAA regulations to ensure the airport retains its operating certificate, monitoring stakeholders, coordinating incident and emergency responses, and collaborating with airport groups and stakeholders to assure continuity of service during all incidents.

Purpose of the Position The Airport Operations Coordinator – Airside maintains a safe and secure airside operational environment, supports tenant activities, promotes aviation within the local community, conducts inspections, coordinates operational and security activities, ensures FAR 139 compliance, manages airfield maintenance and construction activities, and participates in emergency management.

Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with 14 CFR Part 139 by conducting daily inspections of runways, taxiways, ramps, and other aeronautical areas, reporting unsafe conditions, and initiating corrective actions.

Coordinate response to aircraft emergencies, hazardous material incidents, and medical emergencies following the Airport Emergency Plan and National Incident Management System methodology.

Identify and anticipate operational and safety concerns by maintaining continuous surveillance and radio contact with the control tower.

Conduct airfield tenant fuel inspections, recommend corrective actions, and enforce regulations.

Coordinate and monitor daily work on or near the AOA with FAA and other stakeholders to ensure a safe operating environment.

Monitor construction personnel activities on and near the AOA to ensure compliance with AC 150/5370‑2.

Perform wildlife management in accordance with the Wildlife Hazard Management Plan and 14 CFR Part 139.337.

Prepare and maintain inspection reports and operations logs.

Participate in tabletop and full‑scale emergency exercises.

Communicate with airlines, tenants, and airport personnel to resolve airside operation problems and explain airport policies.

Respond to off‑airport locations to investigate airspace violations.

Enforce airfield safety, operational, and parking regulations, recommending NOVs as required.

Observe and report airline and tenant activities for compliance with leases, contracts, and policies.

Keep abreast of existing and new legislation to ensure compliance.

Contribute to the team by completing projects and other related duties as assigned to enhance safety, security, and productivity.

Working Conditions The position requires lifting moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds), long periods of walking on rough surfaces, exposure to moderate heat, cold, moisture, and occasional chemicals. Routine exposure to soiled materials and light chemicals may occur.

Minimum Requirements Educational Requirements Associate’s degree in Aviation Management, Aeronautics, Airway Science, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.

Experience Requirements Four years of progressively responsible experience in Airport Operations and/or Maintenance. Pilot’s certificate, Control Tower Operator certificate, or industry certifications may also be considered.

Substitution: A Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for two years of experience.

Lead or supervisory experience can substitute for education on a year‑for‑year basis.

License Requirements Valid Class C Texas driver’s license and compliance with the City of Houston’s driving policy.

Preferences

Knowledge of airport airside operations.

Diplomatic communication skills.

Experience with MS Office and knowledge of 150 Series ACs.

Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 139 and NFPA regulations.

Experience handling aircraft emergencies and wildlife mitigation.

Priority will be given to eligible veteran applicants in accordance with Executive Order 1‑6.
