Job Title: Fitter We are seeking a skilled Journeyman Fitter/Fabricator to join our team, specializing in structural steel and bridge projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in layout and fitting, proficient blueprint reading skills, and hands‑on experience in structural welding and fitting.

Responsibilities

Perform layout and fitting of structural steel components and bridge girders with speed and accuracy without supervision.

Interpret and understand complex blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications related to structural steel and bridge projects.

Identify steel shapes, layout and fit beams, columns, and show weld size, piece marks, direction marks, etc.

Utilize various tools and equipment such as welding machines, grinders, cutting torches, overhead cranes, and measuring instruments to accomplish fitting tasks.

Conduct quality checks on completed work to ensure accuracy, alignment, and adherence to project requirements.

Collaborate with team members, including welders, fabricators, and project managers, to meet project deadlines and objectives.

Maintain a safe and organized work environment, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations.

Assist in troubleshooting and problem‑solving during the fabrication and installation process.

Essential Skills

Proven experience as a Journeyman Fitter/Fabricator with a focus on structural steel and bridge projects.

Proficiency in layout and fitting techniques, including the ability to accurately interpret and execute from blueprints and technical drawings.

Strong understanding of structural welding processes and techniques.

Ability to perform structural welding as needed.

Familiarity with relevant industry standards and codes.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team environment.

Attention to detail and a commitment to producing high‑quality work.

Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions and environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Certification(s) in AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and/or AWS D1.8 is a plus.

Work Environment Work in a 180,000 sq ft single steel fabrication facility, one of the largest in the Pacific Northwest. The company is AISC certified to work on high‑rise buildings, bridges, marine, and other structural steel projects. Enjoy a supportive environment with provided new gloves, hood, hard hat, and stipends for steel toe boots and prescription lenses if needed. The swing shift runs Monday through Thursday, from 4:30 pm to 2:30 am.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tigard, Oregon.

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 – $34.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
