Team and Role As a Sr. Director of Technical Program Management (TPM) on Capital One’s Enterprise product & platform organization, you will help build solid platforms on mobile and web surfaces that will empower customers across a range of lines of business (credit card, retail banking, auto finance). In addition to leading technical programs, you will pave the way for an expanding TPM discipline within the team by sharing industry knowledge and teaching the organization the value of a great TPM.

Responsibilities

Strong technical background, ideally building highly scalable platforms, products, or services, and proactively identifying and mitigating technical risks throughout the delivery life‑cycle.

Build and lead a world‑class team of technical program managers focused on real‑time, intelligent experiences for customers and associates.

Lead technology‑focused discussions with senior leadership, providing valuable insights and recommendations that guide technology‑based decisions.

Communicate and collaborate exceptionally across product, engineering, design, and data science representatives.

Problem‑solve and influence across teams, applying a quantitative approach to achieve holistic solutions.

Develop the foundations for the TPM practice while growing and mentoring new TPMs.

Simplify technically complex decisions and enable well‑educated choices across cross‑functional teams.

Maintain a deep focus on execution, follow‑through, accountability, and results.

Demonstrate exceptional cross‑team collaboration across different functions, organizations, and reporting boundaries.

Exhibit emotional intelligence, active listening, and empathy for teams and partners.

Basic Qualifications

At least 9 years of experience in technical program management.

Bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Qualifications

9+ years of experience designing and building data‑intensive solutions using distributed computing.

At least 2 years of experience with the full ML development lifecycle in a business‑critical setting, including model building, deployment, and cloud infrastructure (e.g., XGBoost, PyTorch, AWS SageMaker).

5+ years of experience building distributed systems and highly available services using cloud computing services, preferably on AWS.

5+ years of experience building highly scalable mobile products & platforms.

5+ years of experience with Agile delivery.

5+ years of experience delivering large and complex programs, owning business or technical vision, collaborating with cross‑functional teams, and securing commitments on deliverables.

Experience building systems & solutions within a highly regulated environment.

Bachelor’s degree in a related technical field (Computer Science, Software Engineering).

ML industry impact through conference presentations, papers, blog posts, open source contributions, or patents.

MBA or Master’s Degree in a related technical field or equivalent experience.

Salary and Compensation

Salaries vary by location:

Sales Territory:

$240,300 – $274,300;

Cambridge, MA:

$264,300 – $301,700;

McLean, VA:

$264,300 – $301,700;

New York, NY:

$288,400 – $329,100;

Richmond, VA:

$240,300 – $274,300;

San Francisco, CA:

$288,400 – $329,100.

This role is eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation, including cash bonus(es) and/or long‑term incentives.
