This position reports to the Region Field Application Engineer Leader and serves as the Field Application Engineer for ABB's Electrification business in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. region. You will provide technical support to consulting engineers, end users, EPCs, and design-build customers, ensuring that ABB products and solutions are recognized as preferred or acceptable manufacturers in project specifications.
Work model: hybrid with limited overnight travel.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with consultants, end users, utilities and EPC/DBC engineers to define electrical project needs, provide design assistance, product selection, value engineering, budgeting, and educate on ABB solutions to gain acceptance into project specifications.
Provide local technical support for a range of products and applications, including MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, motor control, power monitoring, UPS, ATS, PSG, generator circuit breakers and more.
Apply short circuit, coordination, and arc flash mitigation concepts, illustrating benefits via tools such as SKM or Easy Power.
Review and evaluate project specifications and end‑user requirements to develop electrical solutions, including one‑line diagrams, schematic diagrams, layout and equipment drawings, equipment specifications, and project budget pricing for low and medium voltage applications.
Qualifications
B.S. degree in engineering (strong preference for electrical); minimum 3 years of experience in the electrical distribution industry.
Fluent in written and spoken English.
Previous field, plant or design engineering experience in electrical power systems at major oil and gas companies, electric utilities or industrial facilities is preferred.
Knowledge of industry codes and standards (ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, UL) is preferred.
Must already have work authorization to work for ABB in the US.
Compensation and Benefits Base salary range: $98,700 – $183,300 annually, with eligibility for a short‑term incentive plan/annual bonus.
