Seasonal Airport Maintenance Worker

Position Summary Join the Metropolitan Airports Commission’s award‑winning Field Maintenance team and help keep the Minneapolis‑St. Paul International Airport safe and welcoming. These full‑time seasonal positions are scheduled for 40 hours per week and offer a competitive hourly wage. Pay & Hours

Hourly Rate

$28.46 per hour Pay Differentials/Incentives + $0.60 per hour for Class A CDL (or + $0.40 per hour for Forklift Certification) + $1.25 per hour for 2nd Shift + $2.00 per hour for 3rd Shift Current Shifts Day – Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Afternoon – Monday to Friday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Night – Sunday to Thursday, 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Weekend Day – Saturday to Wednesday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Weekend Afternoon – Saturday to Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Note: Positions will most likely be on the Night shift. New employees typically start on the day shift for training before moving to their assigned shift. Responsibilities

Summary of Duties

Maintain the airport’s airfields, grounds, and roadway maintenance functions in compliance with FAA standards. Typical duties include: Snow and ice control on airfields and public areas such as roadways and terminal zones. Grounds keeping, concrete and asphalt pavement repairs, truck driving, mowing, weeding, fence installation and repair, garbage removal, and general cleanup. Snow and Ice Removal Operate specialized snow removal equipment (multi‑function equipment, runway snow blowers, plows, brooms, ramp push plows, tractors, sanders, liquid chemical dispensing vehicles, snow hauling vehicles). Perform manual snow removal operations. Landscaping/Grounds Keeping Skilled landscaping duties including turf management, grading, rut/depression filling, and weed control chemical application. Plant, cut, trim trees, shrubs, and flowering plants; install ornamental landscaping fixtures. Operate diesel tractors with mower attachments, small tractors, riding mowers, and other powered landscaping equipment. Bituminous and Concrete Repair Repair runways, taxiways, aprons, parking ramps, parking lots, sidewalks, and roadways. Perform joint seal repairs and concrete pour for sewer, drain, and catch basin repairs. Assist with brick or block work and provide traffic control at work sites. Fence, Sign and Gate Construction and Maintenance Install, assemble, cut, and repair chain‑link fence, barbed wire, and sliding gates. Install, repair, and replace signage and related support structures. General Airport Cleaning Clean runways, taxiways, aprons, parking lots, and roadways. Operate power sweepers, backpack blowers, power washers, vacuums, and other equipment. Environmental Duties Remove rubbish and trash, empty receptacles, and transfer debris to dumpsters. Inspec drum water systems and storm water control equipment. Assist with fuel and oil spill containment and recovery. General Duties Operate radio equipment and maintain communication with airport tower. Train co‑workers on equipment use and safety. Assist trades, contractors, and other personnel; help with equipment maintenance and parts pick‑up. Competencies

Minimum Requirements High school diploma or equivalent. Possession or ability to obtain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with airbrake endorsement within six months of employment. Satisfactory driving record. Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, carry, and work outdoors in severe weather conditions. Clear communication skills. Pass a criminal history and employment background check, plus a physical examination. Desirable Requirements Valid Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement. Previous field maintenance experience at MSP or another airport. At least two years operating commercial‑rated vehicles, heavy equipment, or large agricultural machinery. Experience in snow removal, pavement maintenance, landscaping, property maintenance, chemical applications, and two‑way radio use. Application Information
