Overview

The Metropolitan Airports Commission is accepting applications to fill multiple Seasonal Airport Maintenance Worker positions. These positions are benefited and scheduled for 40 hours per week. As a Seasonal Airport Maintenance Worker, you will team up with our Field Maintenance crew to ensure MSP winter operations run smoothly. The primary responsibility is to maintain the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport’s airfields, grounds, and roadway maintenance functions, including snow and ice control on the airfield and in public areas such as roadways and terminal areas. You will perform grounds keeping, concrete and asphalt pavement repairs, truck driving, mowing, weeding, fence installation and repair, garbage removal and general cleanup of the airfield and public areas of the airport. Compensation and Shifts
Hourly Rate $28.463/hour Pay Differentials/Incentives +$0.60/hour for Class A CDL or +$0.40/hour for Forklift Certification +$1.25/hour for 2nd Shift +$2.00/hour for 3rd Shift Current Shifts Day: Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Afternoon: Monday – Friday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Night: Sunday – Thursday, 10:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. Weekend Day: Saturday – Wednesday, 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Weekend Afternoon: Saturday – Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. Note: Positions will most likely be on the Night shift. New employees typically start on the Day shift for training before moving to their assigned shift.
Responsibilities and Duties
Summary of Duties: Primarily performs maintenance duties to FAA standards, including skilled and semi-skilled work to maintain airfields, grounds, and roadway maintenance functions. Work may be in close proximity to aircraft operations. Typical duties include snow and ice control on airfields and in public areas; grounds keeping; pavement repairs; truck driving; mowing; weeding; fence installation and repair; garbage removal and general cleanup of the airfield and public areas of the airport.
Snow and Ice Removal
– Function as an equipment operator using snow removal equipment (e.g., multi-function equipment, runway snow blowers, runway plows and brooms, ramp push plows, tractors, sanders, and snow hauling vehicles) and perform manual snow removal duties. Landscaping/Grounds Keeping
– Landscape and turf management, grading, weed control, planting and trimming trees/shrubs, and operating diesel-powered tractors and other landscaping equipment. Bituminous and Concrete Repair
– Repair runways, taxiways, aircraft aprons, parking ramps and lots; perform joint seal repairs; pour concrete; perform brick or block work; provide traffic control at work sites. Fence, Sign and Gate Construction and Maintenance
– Install, repair and replace fencing, gates, signage and related structures. General Airport Cleaning
– Clean runways, taxiways, parking areas and roadways; operate power sweepers and power washers. Environmental Duties
– Rubbish removal, waste management, drainage inspections, spill containment and cleanup of fuels/oils. General Duties
– Operate radio equipment; train coworkers; assist trades, contractors, and other personnel; assist in equipment maintenance and parts delivery as needed; perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent Possession of a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s license permit and ability to obtain Class A or B CDL with airbrake endorsement within six months Satisfactory driving record Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods, including lifting up to 50 pounds Ability to work outdoors in varying weather Clear communication skills Ability to pass criminal history and employment background check Ability to pass a physical examination
Desirable Requirements
Valid Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement Previous field maintenance experience at MSP or another airport Two years of experience operating commercial-rated vehicles, heavy equipment, and/or large agricultural machinery Experience in snow removal operations Experience in pavement maintenance (concrete, masonry, asphalt) Experience in landscaping or parks maintenance Experience in commercial property maintenance Experience with chemical applications for grounds keeping Experience using two-way radio equipment
Motor Vehicle Record Evaluation Guideline
Safe driving habits are critical for MAC occupations that require extensive equipment operation on the aircraft operating area. External applicants must meet MAC’s standard of safe driving. A contingent offer may be withdrawn for specified driving violations or offenses within the past three years, as outlined below. Three or more minor moving violations within three years (examples: seat belt, speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign, yield violations). Any major violation within three years (examples: DUI, open container, failure to stop/report an accident, reckless driving, etc.). Any pending criminal matter for a serious traffic offense will be evaluated case by case. Felony, Gross Misdemeanor, Misdemeanor, and Petty Misdemeanor definitions are provided for reference.
