Job Summary/Basic Function The FYE and Learning Communities Student Specialist will perform various duties and tasks related to First Year Experience (FYE) and Learning Communities (LCs). The majority of tasks will be in support of the Wildcat Scholars Learning Communities. Individuals will become familiar with FYE, Learning Communities, and Wildcat Scholars programs, processes, and relevant technologies. They will establish and maintain professional boundaries while working with students.

Duties

Helping students build confidence and navigate campus resources

Making outreach phone calls and sending emails and text messages

Preparing, planning, and tabling at Weber Welcome and other events

Following up regularly with assigned students

Completing time-sensitive administrative tasks during peak outreach periods and events

Completing all required training in a timely manner and attending team meetings and other related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Must have completed at least one semester at Weber State

Must be a full-time Weber State student (minimum of 12 credit hours in fall/spring and minimum of 6 credit hours in summer)

GPA of 2.75 or higher

Must be able to handle sensitive student information and protect it according to FERPA guidelines

Able to take feedback and be willing to learn new skills

Good customer service skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desire to build connections across campus and throughout the community

Preferred Qualifications

Bilingual (Spanish preferred)

Experience in peer mentoring, tutoring, or student leadership

Familiarity with WSU student services, policies, and key academic deadlines

Familiarity with digital tools such as Modern Campus, Canva, Google Workspace, Argos, and Zoom
