Structural Heart Outpatient APP
Job Description
The nurse practitioner/physician assistant functions as an independent care provider in collaboration with the medical/surgical staff
Their advance practice is characterized by comprehensive health assessments and management of patients with acute and/or chronic health problems in the peri-operative cardiothoracic surgery setting
Obtain patient histories and perform physical examination
Write consultations, H&Ps, pre-op orders and post-op progress notes as indicated
Assess and manage pre- and post-operative conditions as well as common health problems
Order and evaluate pertinent diagnostic tests including but not limited to: Radiology, laboratories, echocardiograms and ECGs
Prescribe pharmacological agents and non-pharmacological treatments for appropriate medical conditions
Educate patients and/or families regarding disease process, medical and surgical intervention and health promotion
Document patient teaching
Refer and communicate pertinent abnormalities to surgical director/medical specialist
Serves as a resource for nursing and ancillary staff in regards to patient and disease management
Facilitate practices that are in compliance with PRO-NJ and JCAHO requirements
Requirements
Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant in the state of New Jersey.
Current NJ state license CDS and DEA
Current BLS and ACLS required
Acute care certification preferred
Minimum 2 years of experience in cardiac surgery, structural cardiology or general cardiology
