Work Schedule: Shift Work

Reporting Relationship: Sheriff

Primary Accountabilities The Deputy Sheriff Officer is responsible for fulfilling the mission, goals and objectives of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. Duties include enforcing traffic laws, protecting crime scenes and collecting evidence/information, conducting investigations, and providing emergency assistance.

Primary Responsibilities

Keeps daily activity logs and reports.

Responds to dispatch orders without unnecessary delay.

Assists the Sheriff in directing and coordinating agency activities.

Manages, directs, and maintains peace and order in the County.

Maintains and enforces adherence to the State and U.S. Constitution, state law, Sheriff's philosophy, policies and procedures, and standards.

Sets and maintains the highest standards of fairness, attention to duty, and accomplishment of the mission established by the Sheriff.

Supports the Sheriff in maintaining effective public relations.

Establishes and maintains liaison with public officials, and local, county, state and federal agencies.

Gives presentations to supervisors, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public as assigned.

Provides professional advice to the Sheriff or local agencies upon request.

Performs uniformed routine patrol duties.

Processes Server for the Citizens and Businesses in Ottawa County.

Patrols cities (incorporated and unincorporated) during shifts.

General Responsibilities

Provides general law enforcement services to those within the jurisdictional limits of the agency.

Preserves public peace, protects life and property, and prevents crime.

Protects the constitutional rights of all persons encountered or arrested.

Advises all suspects of their rights as assured by the U.S. Constitution, and upon request provides those rights accordingly.

Provides equal protection for all.

Uses force sparingly and only when necessary to affect a lawful end and serves civil process.

Enforces laws of the state and other applicable ordinances.

Arrives to work at a specified time in full regulation uniform, unless otherwise instructed.

Remains on duty and fully conscious until the expiration of the shift, and/or relieved by a supervisor. Remains mentally, emotionally, and physically prepared to perform all required duties.

Completes and turns in all reports and necessary paperwork by the end of each tour of duty.

Maintains sensitivity and provides quality to all races, religions, sexes, and cultural groups.

Establishes and maintains positive, effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, other agencies, and the public.

Attends and completes all required training and demonstrations of proficiency.

Performs additional duties as assigned by Supervisor.
