Environmental Health & Safety Specialist (Greater Cleveland / Northeast Ohio Area) Overview A leading metals recycling and manufacturing organization in the Greater Cleveland area is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support operations at one of its key production facilities. This organization plays a critical role in sustainable metal recycling and alloy production—helping preserve natural resources, conserve energy, and advance circular economy principles.

This plant-based position focuses primarily on environmental compliance and sustainability, with added support for occupational health and safety programs. The role reports to the on-site EHS Manager and offers clear upward mobility to an EHS Manager position leading a site in the future.

Key Responsibilities Environmental Compliance & Sustainability

Implement and maintain environmental programs in compliance with EPA and Ohio EPA regulations.

Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments (air, water, waste).

Prepare and submit required permits and reports (NPDES, SPCC, stormwater, hazardous waste, air emissions).

Drive waste minimization and resource conservation initiatives.

Support sustainability reporting and lifecycle assessments.

Health & Safety Support

Assist with safety programs, training, and investigations.

Conduct inspections, job hazard analyses, and behavioral observations.

Support LMS training management and compliance tracking.

Help lead emergency response preparedness and corrective action follow-up.

Promote safety awareness daily with plant teams and supervisors.

Collaboration & Leadership

Partner closely with the on-site EHS Manager and corporate EHS.

Provide technical guidance and compliance support.

Participate in EHS improvement initiatives across multiple facilities.

Demonstrate leadership potential for future site-level EHS management.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Safety, or related field.

5+ years of EHS experience in manufacturing or industrial settings.

Strong understanding of federal and state environmental regulations.

Experience in waste management, stormwater, and air permitting preferred.

Certifications (CSP, CHMM, CIH) a plus.

Excellent analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a hands‑on environment.

Schedule: Full-time, plant‑based role
