TRANSPORTATION SURVEYOR PARTY CHIEF (CALTRANS)

Caltrans, District 4 Office of Land Surveys, 125100 Mission Blvd., Hayward, CA 94544 Salary:
$10,198.00 – $12,761.00 per month (minimum salary for new to state candidates) Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, administer, and execute the work of a land survey crew conducting preliminary, control, topographic, construction, and cadastral land surveys. Train subordinates to perform land survey duties, including operation of precision surveying instruments, proper surveying procedures, equipment maintenance, survey calculations, and note keeping. Perform all required supervisor duties as a first‑line supervisor under the general supervision of a Senior Transportation Surveyor. Qualifications
Minimum qualifications as detailed in the Class Specification (JC‑498188). Valid California Land Surveying License (or license applicable to the assigned range). Valid driver’s license (required for operating a state‑owned or leased vehicle). Desirable Qualifications
Expert‑level understanding of the technical aspects of land surveying in the field. Strong knowledge of mathematics and basic science as they apply to the land surveying profession. Working Conditions
Field work requires driving a vehicle in all kinds of settings, including heavy freeway traffic, off‑road areas, steep or overgrown terrain, and environments with pesticide exposure, insect or reptile bites, loud noises, dust, chemicals, and extreme weather. Physical demands include hiking, carrying equipment up to 40–80 pounds, stooping, bending, lifting, hammering, and extensive walking on uneven terrain. Benefits
