Position: Assistant Project Manager – Mechanical Engineering (WSCP Directorate), Lefrak Office, Queens, NY.
Job Overview The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health. The Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) oversees a capital program of billions of dollars. This assistant project manager will assist in the planning, design, construction management, and construction of water and wastewater system projects within the watershed.
Responsibilities
Assist in supervising water and wastewater system projects in the NYC watershed.
Plan, coordinate, and direct the implementation of design and construction of projects.
Monitor permit requirements and assist in resolving project issues.
Conduct field condition surveys and prepare accurate reports on physical observations.
Review contract documents, codes, and regulations to identify deficiencies.
Participate in field investigations to develop alternative approaches and solutions.
Work with construction management to perform inspections of construction activity.
Attend all required environmental compliance and safety training classes.
Possibly work extended days and perform field work under various weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
Permanent Civil Service Assistant Mechanical Engineer status.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products (Word, Excel, etc.).
Must operate a motor vehicle for site visits and inspections.
Understanding of project management principles used by DEP.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Effective independent data analysis and critical thinking skills.
Minimum Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or mechatronics and one year of full‑time satisfactory experience.
Baccalaureate degree in mechanical engineering technology and three years of full‑time satisfactory experience.
Baccalaureate and master’s degree in mechanical engineering or mechatronics.
Salary $66,330.00 – $99,528.00
