About the Office of General Counsel The Office of Civil Rights Compliance ensures consistent policy interpretation and implementation of all Title IX and other civil rights (Title VI/Title VII/State Law) services and related programming across all of SUNY's state-operated campuses and SUNY System Administration. The Office oversees, implements and handles investigations pursuant to SUNY's system-wide compliance program, Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, New York State Human Rights Law, New York State Education Law Article 129-B (also known as "Enough Is Enough") and all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, as well as institutional policies and procedures.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Manage civil rights investigations and compliance for SUNY's state-operated campuses.

Provide investigatory services to campuses when necessary and supervise other Office staff on investigations.

Ensure campuses comply with federal and state civil rights laws, including conducting reviews of Title VI, VII, IX, Article 129-B policies and procedures, and ensuring required reports are submitted.

Build relationships and attend meetings with SUNY campus stakeholders including Chief Diversity Officers, SUNY Disability Professionals, affirmative action officers, Title IX coordinators, and Title VI coordinators.

Serve as a resource for campuses on civil rights laws and work closely with attorneys in the SUNY Office of General Counsel.

Guide and work closely with the Student Conduct Institute to provide compliance training to SUNY and non‑SUNY colleges and universities.

Assist the Executive Director for System‑wide Civil Rights Compliance and perform other duties as assigned.

This position will have one or more direct reports.

Job Requirements Required Qualifications

Minimum of 5 years of related experience in Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, 129B, NY Human Rights Law, ADA, and civil rights compliance and programming, including education, prevention, training, policy and practice development and administration, supportive measures, accommodations, investigations, and resolutions related to discrimination and harassment.

Prior supervisory experience.

Handled investigations/compliance in federal and state civil rights laws.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree or Juris Doctor from an accredited ABA law school (or foreign equivalent).

Experience developing presentation and training content related to civil rights laws including Title VI, Title VII, Title IX, Americans with Disabilities Act and New York State Human Rights Law.

Ability to function effectively in a fast‑paced environment with multiple and changing priorities and objectives.

Superior written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience in an academic setting.

Additional Information

Salary depends on experience, education, training, and certifications; range is $105,000 – $120,000.

The position is located in Albany, NY. Limited telecommuting may be available; some travel may be required.

Offer of employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre‑employment background check and verification of degree(s) and credentials.
