Detention Officer - Phoenix Police Central Booking

We are actively seeking community-focused individuals to partner with us and apply and become a Detention Officer for Phoenix, Arizona, the 5th largest city in the United States. The Central Booking Bureau seeks a Detention Officer. The duties of a Detention Officer include taking custody of prisoners from arresting officers; processing prisoners into the City's booking facility; searching prisoners and securing prisoner's personal property; fingerprinting and taking mug shots; completing required documentation and forms; operating computers to obtain warrant and record information; maintaining jail facilities and equipment; safely transporting prisoners when necessary; and working in cooperation with Maricopa County Sheriff's Office personnel at the county jail. Detention Officers will carry a firearm as part of their uniform and will be required to maintain firearms proficiency throughout their career. Work Location: Most work is performed in a holding facility or in vehicles while transporting prisoners, with occasional work performed in an office environment. A Detention Officer must be able to react quickly and effectively to physical confrontations and emergency situations and may be required to use enough legal force to restrain violent/combative prisoners. The work environment and physical demands may require the following: perform physical tasks, bend, reach, kneel, and crouch; stand and sit for long periods of time; perform defensive tactics which require quick reflexes, agility, coordination and strength; move objects weighing up to 50 pounds; may on occasion involve moving heavier objects and materials (100 pounds or greater). Work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, evenings may be required. Require work outside in a variety of environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust. Salary
Pay Range: $26.18 to $35.08 per hour. Hiring Range: $26.18 to $30.31 per hour. Pay Range Explanation

One year of experience handling prisoners as a detention officer or other related corrections experience. Successful completion of the MCSO or PPD detention officer academy. Equivalent to a high school diploma or G.E.D. Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted. All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position. Positions in the Police Department must meet the background standards that are appropriate to non-sworn positions. The general factors for disqualification are listed here. Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.
